Cheap Soup Recipes

I  thought I'd post a couple of GREAT soup recipes. My family loves them. Even the kids. Not only are they easy to make, but there nurtious and cheap!


Hash Brown Potato Soup

1 can chicken broth

1 package chicken gravy mix

1 bag of Obrien Hash brown

Wisk broth and gravy together in crock pot

Add hashbrowns


Cook on high for 5 hours.

Garnish with chedder cheese if you desire.

Note- If you need to make a bigger batch just add extra in even parts. For my family of 6 we use 3 cans of broth, 3 packs  of gravy, and 3 bags of hashbrowns.


Taco Soup

1 lb of ground beed (or turkey)

1 package of Taco seasoning

1 can mix veggies

1 can minced potatoes

1 can corn

1 can diced tomatoes

1 can pinto beans


In big pot brown hamburger and drain. Mix in seasoning

Add all the veggies and beans with their juices.

Cook until heated through.

Serve over corn chips.

Garnish with chedder cheese and sour cream.



I can do both these meals for a family of 6 for under $15

I love to collect recipes and collect more than I try......I have not tried this one but found it several months ago.

3 Ingredient Vegetable Beef Soup/
1 lb extra lean ground beef
48 ounces V8 vegetable juice
2 (16 ounce) packages frozen mixed vegetables

Brown and drain beef. Place in slow cooker with remaining ingredients. Cook on high 1 hour and then on low for 6 to 8 hours.

I am a mom of 8 and we try and cut costs as much as we can.  Soups aren't my kids favorite thing to eat, but this one they do like.

Vegetable Cheese Soup

1/2 C. Butter

2 1/2 C Vegetables (onions, broccoli, carrots, potatoes, celery, peppers, etc)

2 C. Water

2 T. Chicken Bullion


1/2 C. Butter

2/3 C Flour

4 C. Milk

1/2 lb Sharp Cheddar Cheese

In 1st pot, melt butter, saute vegetables, add water and chicken bullion and simmer 10 min or until veggies are tender.

In 2nd pot, melt butter over low temp, and flour and slowly add milk, constantly stirring.  Add cheese.

Combine veggies into white sauce.


**We add mostly left overs to this.  Chicken, potatoes, cheese, red peppers and onions are great together.  If you use left overs, they will save you more money and use less cooking time since they are already cooked.  :)
