Hello Everyone!

I see there are several Mom's here wanting to 'start' and set up biz at home....that's awesome and you have found a wonderful place for ENCOURAGEMENT and SUPPORT.

Many of you, like myself are already 'work at home' Mom's and are sucessful.

I think that one of the most important ingredients in 'getting started' in a home-based buiness is recognizing the SCAMMERS out there and staying clear of them.

Furthermore, I think we should NOT be shy to name those 'biz bummbles' that are really after self gain and our hard earned dollars, such as Storesonline, Gallexymall, imergent.....

A few signs to look out for are:
>Any enity offering a 'service' (never pin pointing or making clear what that service is).
>Any enity offering the 'moon' for a minimal 'start-up' fee.
>Any enity tells you 'your' company, with THEIR help will be RICH in a very SHORT period of time.
>Any enity offering 24hr unconditional customer service.
>Look for FREEBIES to get you HOOKED...such as FREE seminars, fees, dinners, gifts...etc.  always a dead give away that there is 'something' else in mind and It will always be at YOUR EXPENSE.

Always remember this RULE...
..IF it sounds too good to be true it always is.

Please feel free to list any other 'signs' that you don't see listed here and let's help out.

Make sure the company is publicly traded with the SEC.  They have to make sure the company is real and up to snuff to be traded!!!

FYI:  Not all legitimate companies are publicly traded.  Being publicly traded is not the end-all be-all to determine the legitimacy of a company.  :)

Hello Everyone,

I have been in the Network Marketing, Direct Selling or MLM Industry for 20 years.  If they say you'll get rich quick, run in the other direction.

For solid, legitimate companies go to the Direct Selling Associations website and read what a company has to do to be a member and remain a member.  The are a 90 year old governed organization that shuts down the scams and because they are so stringent, only 170 companies have been accepted in all those years.  Thousand apply every year, but never make it.  Check it out www.dsa.org.

Good luck,

Sandy

It is true--there are so many scams out there.  It makes it hard for us legitimate folks to get threw.

BBB--always check with them--just remember though--some people grip about everything--there is always something but if they are a member of the BBB--its all good.  You cannot be a member without passing certain criteria

SEC-not so good--a lot of business don't work that way

Publications is magazines is usually a really good sign that there is something there.  Free offers--everyone advertises specials for business--so that cant really be a deciding factor either.

Research, longevity of the company--training sites--up front persons that don't beat around the bush.

Anyone have any tips for MLM--let me know.  Ive been working 6 months--doing well but really want to do better.  Everyone always has great ideas.  The smallest thing always helps!!

Best of Luck to all--anyones looking check out my team.

There are very legitimate direct selling companies out there which are not registered with the DSA. So just because one isn't listed does not mean they are scams. But everyone should do due diligence before joining any company they are not familiar with.
