I am trying to find information for my son who was diagnosed  in November as having  an Autism Sepectrum Disorder.  I am at a loss he is 9 years old.  I thought that this was something that  was caught and diagnosed when they are younger.   Help!!!!!!!     His Therapist is coming up with his treatment plan?   I am at a loss  he has severe OCD  any changes  at home can send him into  either a rage or into hiding.  His Teacher says she doesnt see anything wrong with him that he is a star student.  If there is anyone with some insight I would  greatly appreciate

Hello, My son was diagnosed a couple months ago, he is 6. Asberger's can show in many different ways. Some do vry well in school, and some don't. It all depends on what characteristics the individuals carry. My son is very smart, but cannot handle the noises and changes in activities at school. He is starting OT today through my insurance plan. He recieves very little OT from the school. He has a Para with him through the day and is able to leave the class when its too much.

Best advice I can give you, is to be his advocate. You know your child better than anyone else. Communicate with him, notice his discomforts and communicate them to whomever is helping him. Praise him when you see any improvements. I praise my son when he identifies his feelings, as we know with Asberger's sometimes this can be a challenge for them.

He is very special and should be reminded that he is loved and you are their for him no matter how he feels and what he does.

Love to you!

Jayme
