Ron Paul (R-TX), a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, won the Oklahoma Straw Poll Monday. The Oklahoma Straw Poll was conducted by the Oklahoma Republican Party at www.OklahomaStrawPoll.com. Mr. Paul was officially declared the winner of the Oklahoma Straw Poll at the “Victory 2012 Rally” in Oklahoma City Monday night.
Mr. Paul garnered 46 percent of the votes to win the Oklahoma Straw Poll. Pizza magnate Herman Cain, who dropped out of the GOP race after the start of the straw poll, grabbed 25 percent of the votes to take second place. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who leads the GOP pack on the national stage, pulled in 17 percent of the votes for a third place finish. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, who finished behind Mr. Gingrich in the latest FOX News Poll, earned 6 percent of the votes to finish in fourth place. Mr. Paul has chalked up an impressive number of straw poll victories throughout his campaign. In August, Mr. Paul nearly won the Ames Straw Poll. Ms. Bachmann’s margin of victory over Mr. Paul was only 1 percentage point.
Mr. Paul’s die-hard supporters have helped the Texas congressman win multiple online and offline straw polls since he joined the GOP race in May. Mr. Paul’s straw poll victories also include the Values Voter Summit Straw Poll and a straw poll conducted by the Illinois Republican Party.
The Oklahoma Straw Poll was a fundraiser for the Oklahoma Republican Party. For a donation of $5 or more to the Oklahoma Republican Party a vote could be cast in the organization’s online straw poll. Voting was conducted from November 21st to December 5th. Approximately 350 votes were cast in the Oklahoma Straw Poll, according to the website of the Oklahoma Republican Party.
