The headline in the Hartford Courant says “Clinton, Paul Winners of Middletown Poll.” But the big winner in all three rounds of straw-poll balloting in at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Middletown, Connecticut was Ron Paul, who beat Hillary Clinton among all candidates, Republican and Democrat, and beat her again in two run-offs of the top Republican and top Democrats. Here are the results:
First ballot: Ron Paul, 42 percent; Hillary Clinton, 30 percent; Barack Obama, 20 percent; John McCain, 2 percent; and Mitt Romney, 2 percent.
Second ballot: Paul, 42 percent; Clinton, 32 percent; and Obama, 22 percent.
Third ballot: Paul, 46 percent; Clinton, 42 percent.
Many Republicans this election season just want a candidate who can win. They’ve been rallying to the media-designated “front-runners.” Trouble is, Mitt Romney’s views were not so different from Clinton’s or Obama’s before he decided to run for president. And John McCain isn’t the government-cutting conservative he’s been portraying himself as being. There’s only one Republican candidate who draws a clear contrast with the Democrats and can beat them — Ron Paul.
We have great Ron Paul activists in Connecticut, by the way. Here’s a picture of some of our supporters in the state, after an earlier straw poll in .
