I decided to call the Barr campaign and find out first hand why Bob Barr did not participate in today's joint press conference.
Here's what I was told.
1) They did not think it was wise to participate in such an event with other candidates whose views are counter-productive to liberty. And that by doing so, would be watering down the opportunity to win votes by sharing votes with other 3rd party candidates who disagree with libertarians on major issues.
They felt a follow up press conference where Barr would be the only candidate answering questions would be to his advantage.
2) I then asked the Barr rep ... did they think that because CNN was covering the Paul Press Conference that they would automatically cover Barr's?
He said they had hoped it would work that way.
But since it didn't happen that way, I went on to tell him how I felt ... that all Barr's plan did was to take away the opportunity for the Libertarian Party to be represented as well as having our presidential candidate absent when he could have been talking about unfair ballot access laws, controlled presidential debates, etc ... and that his absence from the event is already affecting his campaign negatively.
3) I pressed the issue a bit and asked ... were these types of decision made by the campaign alone or was the Libertarian Party involved ... and was told the LP was not included in this decision.
4) I also asked if Barr had committed to the event in advance and all the rep would say was "It had been posted on his calendar"
So ladies ... what do you think?
