I've looked into it as well but it's just WAY to expensive. Instead I am going to ask my doctor if I can donate it.  If you donate it it gets used in stem cell research or goes to a child in need of stem cells.

I banked my sons with Viacord for so many of the reason that you said. Viacord is a very well know company, and the research that they do is amazing.  I try to spread the word about cord blood banking because I truly believe that everyone should at least know that this is available for you.  When I was looking into them I looked carefully to both Viacord and CBR.  I had an emergency c-section and they were able to bank the cells.  They are also able to wait for the cord to stop pulsating I know that is a big thing know with alot of moms.  It was nice The medical courier came picked up the cord blood while I was in recover, the next day Viacord called me to just let me know that they had our unit and to Congratulate us.    Good Luck

You can bank even when you have a c-section.  Mine was emergency section and I was able to bank

I can not afford to but I will be donating it. My mom just had a stem-cell transplant in march and is still recovering. I hope to be able to help some body else out.
