I just finishedmy dd bedroom and have very little budget left for my sons. His is done in spiderman and did not anticipate a change. However, after seeing his sisters redo, he has asked if he can have a "grown up" room...LOL...either star wars, wild west/cowboys or hunting. I was leaning toward wildwest because his dresser is red but I am thinking a hunting theme may last through teen years...he's 9. But all I can think of for that is camoflage curtains and bedding and tan walls. Maybe a mural of trees or a deer on one wall but not sure I feel up to that LOL
I am hoping some of you ladies will have some creative ideas for making his room wonderful with no money LOL. I will be able to paint...thats not expensive. If we go with hunting he has a small pop up tent he would like to have up to play in. If we go with western I was thinking of making a quilt with old flannel shirts. I use to have a western theme in an old house I had and loved doing it but this is his room. His room is small...about 10x10. Wooden floors. I am adding a photo of now incase maybe something will spark a creative idea LOL. Please excuse its plainess now...we just took out a huge loft bed which freed up alot of space but left the room very plain LOL.. And hes napping right now LOL
Thanks in advance for any help!

Just to throw another idea out there....with the red dresser it could be like the red tool boxes in garages. Does he like cars/trucks? That theme could last through teens...boys are never too old for cars! I do like your other themes though and either would be good for a boy. The red dresser would be cute with red bandana accents too for the wild west theme. The hunting room could have an orange dresser since hunters wear orange for safety.
if my son was 9 i don't think i would go with an all-out "theme". just paint the walls (let him pick - within your reasoning) and just pick up a couple accents you think he would like. that way you're not spending tons of money and having him change his mind in a couple years, you can just change up the accents (posters, bedding, stuff like that)
He picked the themes. I thought it was funny he said a grown up room and threw in star wars LOL. I do intend to keep the major things simple. Paint the walls and have accessories in the theme. I think a flannel quilt would still be used even if the theme changes. Oh and he does love cars...I'll have to ask him about that.
camouflage his walls that would look great and last thru his teen years then you can match curtains and bed pilows or accessories after to see what one main color u like . You could either do the blue black camo or the browns and greens camo.
Well, he loved the idea of a "garage"/car theme room. :) Having his dresser look like a tool chest. He wants grey walls and street signs if we can find a couple. Some hub caps. I was thinking maybe a half a tire as a frame for a mirror? Any other ideas? He, his sister and I are all bouncing around ideas. I love the planning process LOL.
i only said no themes because my kid changes his mind every 1.5 hours (just realized my slash thing doesnt work... or my apostrophe!?) lol. anyway, your garage room does sound cool, they have customizable street signs at walmart.com for pretty cheap! i googled and saw someone said put tire tracks on the wall, that would be cool! here is a link to one room.

Oh I understood why LOL...my son has gone back and forth for days LOL. But this garage theme he seems really into. And the good part is, its most plain stuff with just artwork making it a theme....easy to change. :) I saw tht link last nigth while I looked! I LOVE it. We already found the diamond plate tape.
Glad you liked the garage theme. Chrome/silver hardware on the dresser too. You're ideas are great! You can take a small tire, like from a lawn mower, run it through black paint and put it on the walls...like burnouts, skid marks. Use old license plates, road maps, car calendar photos for decor. I can see this room growing with your boy as he grows and likes the sports cars, race cars, old muscle cars or whatever is his taste at the time.

This is already so much fun and I don't even have money to do anything until April LOL. Journey is adhd and is attracting to more subdued looks. He does want signs which will add some character. We went yesterday and took pictures of parts of cars for art in his room. We had fun and hes excited LOL. I priced things out and its affordable and should be done by May. It can't be too busy because it would be too stimulating but I love the tire track ideas and stuff. Mostly it will be regular stuff with the artwork being the theme. And I want to get a car seat for him to have seating and make his dresser look like a tool chest. I am also getting a metal garage shelf and storage that you would see in a garage for his toys. (tool boxes, bins etc) I think I might do a peg board too with baskets and hooks....just a small one. Thanks for the help! I was so lost on my own!
