What color should my kitchen and dining area be? *update with during pictures!*

We are in the process of adding a dining area onto our kitchen.  This project did not start by choice since there was dryrot in the front section so hubby had to pull it all apart and figure out where it was leaking and replace the dryrot.  Here it is now...

Let me explain what you are looking at since it is still under construction.  The area to the left will be 2 closets: a multipurpose closet and a pantry.  I cannot wait to get these done!  We have a deep, skinny closet under our stairs and a TINY closet in our bedroom and that is it in the entire house!  That door will be removed and the area in front of the closets will be our dining area.  We have a corner table that will fit perfectly there!  I am kind of hoping to paint this area different than the rest of the kitchen to make it its own space.

Ignore the fact I had not yet cleaned this morning when this picture was taken.  This is the other side of my kitchen.  What color should the walls be?  Half of my house is tan and blue so I really don´t want any more of that!

Just a view of the sink area.  The stuff on top of those cabinets will be moving into the pantry.  What should I do with that space?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!  Our kitchen has come a long ways since we moved in!

I was thinking about that.  You don´t think it would be too dark with all of that wood in there and the granite countertops?

I love khaki.  That way if you ever want to redo the accent colors you can without painting again

ohh I agree. A deep warm red. I don't think it would be too dark at all.

Here is the redish orangish color that is on one wall in my living room and all four walls in my dining room that extends to our entry

Do you want a theme in your kitchen? I have wine as a them so there are mini wine bottles and fake grapes on top of my cabinets, and the corner cabinet has a wine bottle holder and a bottle in it of course....

White rope lights would be cool to sick up there for some accent lighting, you would need outlet(s) inside the cupboard(s) and drill into the top of one the get the cord in...

These things are cool too!

Well, hubby and I aren´t into wine but now that you mention it maybe I will do a fat chef theme.  I just LOVE those cute little fat chefs LOL

This kind of fat chefs...

I would go with a red or mint green

Even though you are expanding the space is small and does not have alot of natural lighting.

I personally would paint the kitchen side a tan color and the DR side a shade or two darker.  These colors will relate to the other rooms in your home.

Add red and black in your accessories. The fat chef theme is still quite popular and there are many pieces available on ebay.

I would then add black or oil rubbed bronze hardware to the cabinets.  Use darker colored curtain rods as well.

Thank you so much ladies!  I started painting my kitchen red and although it makes it look smaller I love it.  I think I am going for white for the windowsills and trim board though.  I will post pics when I am done!
