I found this picture at IKEA and I just knew I wanted to design my baby girl's room around it!  Its a canvas "painting" about 24x24 in.  I especially love the deep purple and blue in it, but I'm having the worst time trying to find any crib bedding to match!  And I'm not sure what else I would do in the room, so I wanted to ask you ladies if you have any ideas!?  Let me know!

  • I LOVE that picture! I think it is a great idea to decorate using it as your inspiration. I would probably make the bedding myself if I couldn't find anything. I would use the purple, dk blue and tealish colors. As far as decorating beyond bedding you could get letters that spell the baby's name and paint them or cover them in fabric, stuffed animal in your color story, a lampshade that goes with it. I don't think that everything has to be matchy matchy, and I love the colors in what you chose :D Good luck!

  • I love Klimt!  I have seen this picture before and it is beautiful.

Since the artwork is so dramatic, I would go for a more sophistiacted look for bedding.

I found a couple of pics at Overstock (they have a lot of choices):

    Brown w/ gold:http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Camel-Brown-Paisley-12-piece-Baby-Bedding-Set/2923481/product.html

    Blue Monkey: http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Monkey-Business-Blue-Decorative-Pillow-Set-of-2/2542603/product.html

I know that you were looking for purple, but I think brown & golds would go really well with this painting or find a solid deep purple comforter sheets etc (you might need to buy them separetely if you can't find a set).

    Hope this helps :)

  • I am thinking you should do the above mentioned brown and gold bedding set, paint one wall a chocolate brown color and then do one a khaki or golden color ( i like Bungalow Gold which is a valspar paint from Lowe's) then I would use the teal and purple and blue to accent with. Have fun with the room, and post pics when you are done!

  • This is a great piece of art.  I love purples and blues.  Instead of using a traditional baby blanket, use a throw that has these colors.  There are some beautiful, soft throws and are not very big that can be used as your crib blanket.  You do not have to go with baby theme accessories.  Think out side the box and just decorate a beautiful room that you can enjoy with your baby.  Plus it will grow with her and once she is out of a crib you just need to buy a bed.  It looks like you are already thinking sophisticated with this piece of art.

    Good luck.

  • That is very pretty and feminine, and has quite a bit of yellow, so I would suggest doing a solid yellow cribset.  You could do the walls in a lighter purple, like the purple ring around the white flowers in her hair.  Then you coud choose one or two of the other colors in the picture for accent colors.  I think the light teal leaves on the flowers would be a very pretty accent color, but you could easily do the dark blue and/or purple as an accent too.  Purchase things like lamp shades, rugs, curtains, pillows, picture frames, etc in those colors.

    Something like this:

Or you could switch it, and do yellow walls with a solid light purple bedding...Target has a brand named Tadpoles that has gingham in solid colors, including lavender.

  • I think your best bet would be to go to the fabric store and make your own.  Making a bumper pad, and blanket for a crib is pretty easy.  The picture is very busy so you may want to keep your bedding a bit more simple.  Especially if you plan to put the picture over the crib.  You want to keep the picture a focal point of the room so don't overpower it with too much textures and details in other places.
