Okay... this is the part where you tell us a little bit about yourself.

Make sure to include something about your conservation history/habits.

Remember... everyone at every stage of recycling/conservationism is welcome... from the casual curbside recycler... to the stringent GREENY!

Hello,

My name is Sherri. Some of you may already know me, the people who do not; it is nice to meet you.

Nature is my life. I have driven my family crazy for 30 years with recycling and reusing. My husband is just beginning to understand, we have been married for only 2 ½ years. All I want for Mother’s Day is a new red wiggler bin. A place to compost for a gardeners’ delight, where I get to use my table, non-meat, scraps, and receive not only wonderful compost to add to my gardens, but the liquid made watered down ¾,  is great fertilizer.

My name is Kari.  I now live in central TX, originally from upstate NY.   I became more aware of how wasteful I was a few years back during my last semester in college when I took a class just to fill an elective spot called "pollution and the environment" .
My professor, Karen Wehn, have to give her props,  She taught the class straight up and told us how it was and how the human race is a deadly threat to the planet and what each and everyone of us could be doing to make less of an individual impact on the Earth.  Some may say it's propaganda, I call it truth.

In conjunction with that class,  My boyfriend, on summer breaks, used to work for the sanitation department for the town he lived in.   There he learned about how WASTEFUL people were.  How more than half of what everyone thows out could have been easily recycled.

So you mix a bit of hard factual knowledge with actual visual experience, and you get ME = a RECYCLING MANIAC!!

Hello my name is Jaime and I live in North Carolina-brought up in Canada and lived in Buffalo for 9 years, got cold and moved south.  I have been back and forth with recycling.  Now that I have time to make it a prioity I do.  I teach 6th grade science and love teaching this unit.  I have kids reuse items, we had the school finally start recycling paper, cans and bottles.  I started a compost pile using only items from the school and some hay from home.  I am finally collecting all of my DH's cans that he uses.  We reuse our water bottles and little things like that.  I want my son to be conscience of these things when he grows up.   That's all for now!

Reduce~we BYOB to the store, by bulk, just say NO to bottled water!
Reuse~We craft a lot with many items to re-use them! I save all food containers and use as storage containers, cloth towels in the kitchen. . . .
Recycle~ I have the fullest bins on the block each week! Wooo Hooo!! (just started my compost heap today~recycling there as well!!
Respect!~ Respect the Earth! She's the only one we got! ;)

I love when my kids make comments~"Who would throw that can in the garbage!" "Why is that garbage on the ground!" and so on!

My dad was always BIG in conservationism when we were kids. We recycled everything, lived as responsibly as we could... we would go for walks and pick up litter... one time we were in CO and at one of the parks there was a piece of trash down the side of a cliff... my daddy climbed down and go it to get rid of it the RIGHT way. He was def my hero.

Anyway... my dad's mindset, and now mine, is that God gave us the planet and all it's resources to be STEWARTS of... not to abuse. So it's our responsibility to use those resources wisely and protect them to the best of our ability.

I've been married for almost 3 years. Have a beautiful 8 month old daughter... and I'm the admin of this group :)

I firmly believe that CONSERVATIONISM (which is what I like to call it) is NOT an exclusive religious issue OR political issue.... and it kinda annoys me when people act like it is... I think it's a RESPONSIBILITY issue.

I'm not living quite as "Green" as I would like too... partly because we rent, and there's only so much we can do when we don't own it... But I'm as picky about what I buy as my budget will allow... and I'm a "recycle Nazi" (to borrow a term from another member :)) My hubby isn't... so twice a day or so I look in the garbage to check for his "mistakes". (That's what I say, "Oh honey.. you accidentally put this can in the trash, instead of the recycle bin next to it.")

Hello, my name is Brandi and I just joined!  thank you for having me!  I live i a small town in Missouri that doesn't really do any recycling, wish they did!  We moved from Florida a year ago and it was much easier there!
When our house down there sells we are going to be building.  We looked into a straw bale house, but, I think we have decided on an Earth Contact.  We have a number of "green" ideas for the house.  I'm so excited!  We plan to have some farm animals, chickens, a few cows, a couple of goats, not much.  And a garden, I'm a black thumb when it comes to plants, so I hope it works out !  A compsot pile is also on the list.  There are so many things I would change about the house we are renting, like put in a clothes line, I miss my clothes line!  But, we are renting....
This is getting long, so let me also say I'm pregnant with our second and plan on using cloth diapers, and making my own wet wipes. That was NEVER a thought with our daughter who is now 4.  I just cut out a few bibs yesterday from some jeans I picked up at a garage sale this past summer.  I also just took a bunch of plastic bags to Wall-Mart's recycle bin.
I hope to get even better at the 3 R's!  If my children grow up with it, it will be just how you do things.

Looking forward to all of the info you ladies are going to provide!
Thank you!

Hi!  I'm new, to the group, but not to recycling.  We live on an island, so everyone here recycles as much as possible.  We never buy water bottles, but take our own (filtered) water from home, set a homeowners water limit at 300 gal. a day max (and most don't even come close) and have a wonderful recycle center open 5 days a week.  On Earth day, they have an art contest using repurposed items, and it is a fun project to do with kids.  They are so creative, and see things in other items, that we may not see.  I look forward to learning even more good ideas from you 'practiced 'ladies...necessity is the MOTHER of invention, and mothers come up with great solutions to reuse things in innovative ways...yea us!

Hi everybody!  My name is Elsie & I have been a pretty avid recycler for about 17 yrs. now.  I started in college when a sorority started collecting cans in my dorm.  When I realized how much less trash I had after starting that, it really dawned on me how one person can make a big impact.  I started learning what all could be recycled & have been doing it ever since. I am really passionate about it & I recycle or reuse practically everything.

It is interesting, I was just going through some old papers from college - to recycle some of them & found a letter that I had written to the Mayor of my hometown talking about recycling & how our town needed to incorporate it.  I have no idea if I had anything to do with it but I am proud to say that they do have a recycling area.  Sadly, I don't think very many people use it.

I have started using all of my own "Green" cleaning products thanks to April (Sungreen) and all the Fabulous women of Homemade Goodness - that group Rocks!  I do hope to be composting by the end of the year.  We rent right now & there is no place for a garden but that is a dream for the future as well.

I am excited to be a part of this group to learn & share as well.
