I have been bipolar for many years now. I get very agitated and my moods are all over the place if I dont take medication. Today my boss called me in the office and asked me why I have been making so many mistakes in the last year. He said last year everything was fine with my work but now he is getting worried about it.
I contribute this to the 2 medications I have to take every day. I feel out of it all day and like I have no energy. I miss really simple things that is costing my company alot of money. I told him that Ive been on medication and Ill have to talk to my doctor again about what I can do.
I dont want to be on medication anymore. Im scared that if I do quit taking them it wont be good. I smoke pot and Ive been thinking about going and getting my card. My question to you is does smoking REALLY help you with being bipolar? How do you cope at work with no medication? Do you take pills along with smoking weed or is smoking for you just fine?

the first month will suck though. you will need tons of willpower.
Anyway, I've been using mj for 2 1/2 years now to help me cope with my moodswings and lows. When I have a moodswing I smoke and it helps me to forget whatever happened to flip my switch. My problems haven't gone away, but they've gotten a little better. I can pull myself out of my moods more easily now and tell when I'm having a swing. (I didn't use to be able.) I don't know that it will help you as much, but I hope it does.
i don't take any pills anymore. i hated the way i felt on them, emotionless, like a zombie just going through the motions. problems were still there but i was numb to them and couldn't handle life in general. for soem though, the right med(s) can make all the difference in the world, but it can take time to figure out exactly what med(s) to take. i quit cold turkey (worst decision ever, but not completely my fault) and have only used mj since. i practice meditation a little bit, as well, and eat a hell of a lot better than i used to. i do believe a healthy diet can make a lot of difference for people, and it's an easy thing to do.
when i have a low period, i smoke more. i'm relaxed and better able to handle situations because instead of flying off the handle, i think about what i should be doing to make the situation better. i can get involved with things easier instead of feeling liek i shoudl be doing 10 million things at once, and i have more fun with my girls.
i think this is soemthing you shoudl discuss with your doctor, but whatever you do, DO NOT quit your meds cold turkey. if you feel like mj helps you, then i woudl go ahead and get your card. you'll be able to get a strain or strains tailor-made for specific types of needs you have. the peopel that work in the dispensaries knwo their stuff and will be more than happy to help you find your happy place :) good luck, sweetie!

Thank you for the help. I actually went and got my card the other day. I talked to the doctor there and told him I was there for 2 reasons...being bipolar and not wanting meds and for a car accident I had a few years back that gives me back pain. I put both those reasons on the paperwork because in my state they wont give me a card for a mental disorder. Sure enough he said he wouldnt give me one for being bipolar but gave me the card for a back ache....Kind of makes me mad but at least I got it. I started taking half my meds in the morning and smoking at night. Ive been able to focus more at work. I went to a dispensary once and Im nervous to tell them I have bipolar disorder. Im just trying different strains to see how I feel.

it sounds like you are off to a good start! i'm glad you're getting soem relief now, and are doing better at work. i can understand a little about them not wanting to give you a card for mental disorders- there's just not enough research to prove it helps, but i believe it does help for some people. maybe if you get friendly enough with the staff at the dispensary, you coudl ask about their thoughts on which strains might help with bipolar disorder, on the pretense that you're concerned about a friend wanting to get their card as well.
