I was told that some kids with food allergies automatically have an aversion to that food. My son has hated peanut butter (never ate it) since he was old enough to eat it. The smell made him sick, he would gag and throw up. I had no idea at the time he was allergic. Well the school made him eat a peanut butter sandwich one day and he kept throwing up so they asked me to get him tested. He has a severe allergy to it as well as a lot of others. We have to see a specialist for the skin tests on the 9th. Right now i have no idea what to feed him because some allergy scores were low and some were high. He is very, very picky and will spit out ALOT of foods. He is 5 1/2. Have your kids had an aversion to their allergies? I'm afraid to make him eat anything he doesn't like until we know more but he also wouldn't eat eggs and accidentally got something with eggs in it at school, he threw up. Found out he was allergic to them also. I would love to talk with anyone about food allergies too as this is a whole new ballgame for me.
My kids are younger than yours so, they don't quite have aversions yet, but my every time my son eats chicken, about an hour later, he gags himself. Almost like he's trying to make himself throw up. It's really weird. I've stopped feeding him chicken for now. He has several other allergies, so every time he is eating I watch him pretty carefully. I've been dealing with this since he was born (he's 21 months now), and have done tons of research on my own, so if you have any questions about allergies, I'd be glad to help.
I have wondered about this for a long time. My son is 3 and he refuses to eat bananas. He has been tested and does not show he is allergic. However, they have made him projectile vomit 3 times in the past. He ate many many before that though. I just decided he is smarter than the test. We are built to avoid foods that make us sick (or might kill us). This is a biological thing, and it sounds like your son is in tune with his body and remembers (not necessarily conscioiusly) what made him sick in the past. It is so hard to know when they are refusing something bc they think it will make them sick or when they're just being difficult for no good reason. I always err on the side of caution though- which means I waste a lot of food....
