  • My son is in Kinder this year. He is going through the same things. When he was 4 he was home with me during the day. I started to get concerned that he just wasn't ready for school. I talked to his doctor evaluated him and referred him to a speech and occupational therapy rehab. He has been going there for about a year but still has days where he "acts out" in class, the school is great with him, they remove him from the class twice a day for one on one speech and OT therapy and he also benefits from a counseling group at school.  Their is nothing you could have done.  Your daughter is young and she is getting the help she needs.  Just count yourslef lucky that its getting addressed. Some kids fall through the cracks with no attention and then when they are older they begin to struggle and act out in a worse way.

I have to agree w/ PP. My youngest has behavioral issues. And we have been trying to correct them since his 1st year of preschool(2 yrs of that) and he is now in Kindergarten. He has been taken from one school to the next in our school district. They say that by placing him into this school they will focus on his issues and get more one on one help. But that wasn't happening so he was placed into another school which his Kindergarten teacher told us she WASN'T qualified to handle him. So NOW he is at a school or a day care place for kids w/ behavior issues. They focus on learning for 2 hrs a day and the rest of the day is group therapy.

You are doing everything right. Just get her into speech therapy. Have her hearing checked. That could be causing some of the speech problems too..

she is going to get speech therapy and occupational therapy through the school starting in a few weeks but that can only cont till the first grade because that is all the school offers unless there is something seriously wrong with her....and her hearing is fine it was just checked at her doc. appt....plus i am a sign lang. interpreter and am well aware of the signs of hearing loss and so for.....and plus she only started talking when she was three....but so did i.....and they say that they follow the patterns of the parent.....and i was the same way....i had speech therapy as well because i had probs with phonics but after a yr i was fine and i didnt have to do it any more.....

  • It's good that your getting her tested and getting the help she needs.  Have you had her hearing tested by an ENT yet?  That might be part of it too.  My oldest wasn't talking at 2 and we had to really push to be seen by an ENT to get his hearing thoroughly tested.  We just knew something wasn't right.   The few words he was saying weren't coming out right or clear.  Anyway, they found some hearing issues so he was able to get those corrected and start speech therapy right away.  His speech was fine by Kindergarten.  I have also been told that not hearing well the first few years can result in other issues too since they miss the prime learning time to learn to follow directions.
