We are trying to decide what to get our 5yr old for Christmas. It is between either the VSmile Cyberpocket or the Leapster 2. Does anyone have either or both of these systems and can give their opinion on which is better suited for 5 yr old?

  • My kids like the vsmile games, but I think that it is hard to read on the cybepocket and better on the TV. The leaspter is really good (we have the original), but I think the older games were better than the Leapster 2 games. The Leapster 2 games the kids play and gt an online code. Well, if I wanted them to play on the computer I would have gotten then a computer game and not a handheld game. You can still buy some older games ont he leapfrog site. Vsmile games are more arcade like.

FYI- Mr Pencil Draw and Write is a really good game for teaching colors, color mixing and stylus use. My kids play this game the most. We have 14 game cartridges. My 6 yr old loves SonicX.

  • We have a Vsmile and each kid has a Leapster 2. They haven't played with the Vsmile since getting the Leapsters even though they also got new games for the VSmile. It seems to me that the games on the Leapster hold their attention much better

All the old Leapster games will still work on the Leapster 2 and the new games work just great even if you never connect to the computer at all. I am the only one to connect the Leaspters to the pc, they just like to see what rewards they have earned but they don't really ever do anything with them, lol. It is nice to be able to see what they have been doing though - on the L2 games it actually can tell you that they answered 14 addition (to 10) questions and got 10 right. That can be helpful information so you know what to work on with them.

  • Although I really liked the Vsmile games for my son, Leapster did seem to hold his attention better though, that being said we did have more interaction with each other with him learning on the Vsmile.  I only allow an alotted time on computer and video games.

  • my kids have a leapster to share and they love it. they are trying to talk us into getting the leapster 2 for xmas. so they can each have one. they learn, play, and they like to share with each other what they have done and also with us. I'm really glad my mom got them one for easter a couple years ago.
