Principal's Office

Has your child ever been sent to the principals office? Have your ever been to the principal's office? Do you like the principal at your school?

My son's school just got a new principal, I didn't care for the previous one, but although I haven't met him yet I do like him. However my son has been sent to his office, the second week of school. He tackled a kid who made a soccer goal and he wasn't happy about it. Although he has social issues still no excuse. Since that incident he had to go one more time, but has been good since.

My son went to the Principal's office twice. Once for kicking a kid and another time for getting into a fight with another boy. He's only in Kindergarten, but those events were in September...he has been MUCH better behaved as the school year is progressing. I was NEVER sent to the Principal's office, but my DH has many times throughout Elementary and Junior High.

I was sent to the principal's office in elementary school and I turned out relatively o.k. :)  I have met several times with the principal of my son's school and he is a difficult man to deal with.  He has the attitude that parents just need to shut up and bake cookies.  He runs the school like his own little kingdom with not accountability to the district because it's such a large district.  The previous principal ran the school the same way.

My son went to the pricipal's office last year two weeks after he started Kindergarten.  The teacher called me actually because she wanted to give me the "heads up" that there had been an incident on the playground and that Ben had been sent to the principal's office.....just because she knew that he was still really upset (not so much about having talked to the principal, but just over the fact that he had gotten in trouble).  Sure enough, I picked him up and he was down and said that he wasn't ready to talk about it yet....but  by the time we got out of the school pickup area, he started telling me what happened.  There was apparently a "tickling" incident on the playground and several kids were gang tickling one of his friends, he got "involved"  (he must have gotten this word from the principal) and apparently kicked a child.

He said that he had a good talk with the principal and they agreed that he would try not to get involved again.  There was also subsequently a "tickling" discussion in the classroom and a general talk about respecting people's bodies, etc., etc.

The next day I caught up with the principal in the hallway and introduced myself and we had a good chat too.  He is very approachable.  He has one of those very quiet, calm personalities, and you can tell that he really cares about the kids.  He definitely made an impression on my kid.....for the rest of the year, every time we walked by the principal's office after school, he would insist on looking in the window and knocking to tell the principal "Hi."  More often than not, if the principal was in his office, he take a moment to step out his door and chat for a few minutes.

I don't think we could actually ask for a better principal.

Neither of my kids have been sent to the principals office. I have met the principal though, and I really like her. She is always around the school in the mornings and afternoons. She is sometimes outside in the mornings when the kids get out of the cars, and talks to the parents. During school assemblies, she makes a point to say hello to all the  visitors and thank them for coming. (Parent particiaption isnt big at our school, so I like that she does that) If my kids ever did get in trouble, I would feel comfortable going in to discuss it with her.

no really as far as principals they are good and fair....but i must admit that knowing TOO much about their personal lives has tainted my opinions of them as well!

DS hasn't been sent to the principal except to wander in and visit since he adores them.  I love his principal and vice.  I have talked to them over concerns and they are very good to tolerate me!  I however lived in principal offices throughout my school time...Not the best student!
