backpacks - I haven't ever washed one.  They get a new one at the start of every school year.

Jackets get washed at least once a season, more often if they are really dirty.

Same here, I never thought to wash a back pack. My oldest son has a really good one and it has lasted him the past 3 years. But it's black, so you really can't tell if it's dirty.

backpack washing is played by ear, if it's really dirty we'll wash it.  We don't wear coats anymore, in fact my daughter is still wearing shorts, we're in TX.

Nathan has several jackets that he wears. I usually wash the current one on Mondays and he decides which of the other ones he wants to wear while that one is being washed. His backpacks every two weeks. It can get pretty gross in there.

As far as backpacks go, I wash them with a washcloth and some wter.  Jackets get washed too because my kids throw them on the ground and they get dirty!!

They would stay cleaner longer if my boys would listen to me once in a while!!

Jackets....depends on how much dirt my girls get on them then I would say at least once a month...yet, they alternate through several jackets

You are very Lucky (not to need a jacket) over the past THREE days we have recieved a foot of snow.  Jackets get washed after the season is over unless they have spills.  Back packs depend.

I wash both once a month, or sooner if they look really dirty. I do this to remove dirt, grim and germs. I also spray  back packs w/ Lysol weekly.

both as needed, but coats once a month even if it don't look dirty---jackets every week, they get dirty faster becouse they are out more in them.
