What is the first great historical event you remember living through?

I'm feeling my age today because a 22 year old asked me if I remember when Kennedy was shot.  Um, no because my mom was only 14 and I hadn't been born yet!  In any event, it got me thinking about the first major historical event that left an impression on  me.  The kind of even that you remember where you were and what you were doing at the time when it happened or when you heard about it.  My first big memory like that is the day Elvis died.  I remember the moment down to the weather.  I remember my mother and all these other adult women crying hysterically and my sister and I not having a clue as to what was going on.  What about all of you?

The first big one I remember (but just barely) was the US's Hockey win against Russia in the 1980 Olympic Games.

Second to that would be Reagan getting shot.  That was crazy.

I think the first one would be the Challenger explosion.  I was 9 and in 3rd grade.  Our class wasn't watching (there were only a limited number of TVs in the school) but class was interrupted after the incident and a TV was wheeled in and another class joined us to watch the news.

I think the first really big worldwide news event I remember is the fall of the Berlin Wall.  I was like 12 and remember thinking, "this is big" but not really understanding the full significance of the event.

Mine is probably also the fall of the Berlin Wall.  My mom had an uncle, aunt and cousins that lived in East Berlin and my parents had some difficulty trying to visit them while they were stationed in Germany (Army in the late 70's).  He was shot and killed in the early 80's, but my mom has kept in contact with the rest of the family over the years.  My parents watched the news for days when the wall started to actually, physically come down.

I was in 6th grade when the spaceship blew up killing all the astronauts on it.  The one that had the teacher on board.

The first major thing was the Challenger exploding.  I was pretty young then.

The second would be the Berlin wall coming down.  I believe I was in 7th grade then.

That was the Challenger Space Shuttle.  I was in seventh or eighth and we all watched it live on television at school.  That's my number three.   (Someone just mentioned it above, too.)  That was horrible.
