I saw how one mom simply makes her kiddo sit while they are grounded and do nothing...how do you ground?  Do they only get certain things to do? or Lose everything all together?

My kids are only 3 and 6 so we havent had to ground to strickly yet. My son will get his Tv and games taken away, I have also made him sit at the kitchen table in the evening and only read or color. If he is really bad I will not get him go to Karate. He doesnt play with many kids so we havnt had been able to take playdates away yet.

It depends on how bad their behavior in what we take away.  Sometimes it's just t.v, sometimes it's just video games, sometimes it's all priviledges.

Same for us.  Plus we take away playdates if our son is grounded.  Fortunately, we haven't had to ground our son in awhile.

My son will usually lose his ds or video game for the night. It would depend on what it was that he did.

Same here. Taking away the games usually works pretty well. I also havn't really had to ground him to much lately.

Since he's an only child, I really hate taking EVERYTHING away unless it's really serious.  It would leave him hardly anything to do and I don't want to use reading as his only was to pass time as a punishment, and that just makes the whole situation much worse than it needs to be.

Depends on what they have done and how much they have annoyed me.

Usually grounding starts with just going to their room.  If they continue to misbehave or tick me off then they are confined to their beds but can read.  If they are still misbehaving then they lose the books, too, and get to just sit there and do nothing.

Restricting other privileges (TV, video games, outside play, etc) is separate.  That usually comes before the grounding depending on the offense.

The only things they have to do in their room is read and play with their toys.

This is how we are too - the punishment has to fit the crime, so to speak.

When my son is grounded he doesn't get to play outside, play his video games, or watch tv.

The grounding depends on what they did. I have a 12 5 and 4 yr  old girls my oldest last year lost her birthday because she got her report card with all Fs and then she sat there and lied to me about it. Her report card came the weakend of her birthday.
