a backpack & lunch box right now?  I need it for next monday, my dd is starting preschool.... but I can't really find any in stores right now.  Any suggestions? I haven't tried Staples or Office Max, do you think they would have them?

DD is coming with me and hates shopping so I'd hate to drag her to 34 stores!

We just bought one a week ago at Target (the dog tore up our other one) like the PP said in the sporting good section, by the coolers and car travel coffee mugs.

Well I know for sure that Target has them, the aisle over from the luggage.  Walmart also has them, backpacks are with the purses.

Target is a good place on short notice.  The Target we shop at always has them by the luggage.  The OfficeMax near us has lunch containers, but I don't know if that's the same for all stores.

I like to get my son backpacks from Lands End.  They usually last him 2 years, and then we use them for traveling.  Since we live in an area with snow, I found the zippers would break on the backpacks from Target or Wal-Mart when he started carrying snowpants and snowboots to school.  But for pre-school, I think you daughter would do fine with a packpack from Target.

Target has them. Most stores will have them in the sporting goods dept. Walmart also has a couple. You can also find lunch boxes in the same area as the backpacks.

wow, i wasn't home all day yesterday to check this - i went to walmart for some other things and checked there - they had a backpack for $3!  and a sleeping bag for $9.  i already checked target and they had nothing so i figured walmart and kmart would be the same - thanks for everyone's help though! (and it must just be my target, since everyone said target! they had ONE girl's backpack and it was HUGE and on rollers.  dd is 3, it didn't work out lol)
