we live in a school district that has limited bus service. my son is bussed to his school as it is too far for him to walk safely from home.

Okay, I have a question for the moms who have kids that are bussed. Does your district charge for the bus service? Our district charges like $150 for the year. Thankfully we only live 2 block from school so we walk..but I thought that was ridiculous. When I was in school, it was free..

I drive him, only bc we are in the 2 mile ( we are not sending a bus for your kid ) radius. I'll probably let him ride his bike next year though.

well we moved recently and the school she'll be going to next year requires you to pay to ride the bus if you live w/in 2miles.  I'm sorry today it's just NOT safe to let your child walk that far alone (we don't know any kids yet in the area)..so until we know someone so she can walk/ride with them I'll be taking her.  Cheaper for me to drive her than pay for the bus.  I understand the need to pay for the driver/gas/maintenance but isn't that what our school taxes are partly for?? anyways, there ya go...

OK, we have school bus service and it is free for those who are passed the 2 mile mark.  I have a bit of a problem with this, bad weather days I see kids fighting elements to get to school.  They get sick and the parents get in trouble if the child misses more than a few days of school.  ????But my kids have been home school and have on-line teachers for the past 2 years.  But I let them walk to the learning center on nice days.  Bad weather days they get a ride.

We live in a rural district where every kid is bussed.  They don't charge a fee for the bus service.

All 3 of the boys ride the bus. They also attend different schools. One goes to headstart the other is in our primary school(pre k-2)and the other is in elementary school(3-5)

Mine walk.  It's 3 blocks to the school and takes them a little less then 10 minutes to walk there.  I walked with them the first 2 years they were there and this year I only walked them half way until around the beginning of this month.  Now they walk themselves in the morning but I still have to pick them up in the afternoon because the school doesn't believe they are capable of walking alone (they HAVE to have a parent pick them up until 5th grade).  They are in 1st, 2nd and 4th grades.

They don't have bus services around here.  All homes are within a 2 mile radius of at least one school.  The only kids getting bused are kids with disabilities and those that couldn't get into their local school because of overcrowding and get bused all over the freaking place.

When my oldest was in kindergarten and 1st grade we were in another state and the school was on the outskirts of town up this huge hill with no pedestrian way to get there (no sidewalks leading to the school, the streets were narrow, curving, big hills and none of them had sidewalks) so every kid got bused.  It was free for everyone

I drive mine in the morning because the bus comes at 6:50 AM.  That's just a bit early for my personal preference.
