What does your elem aged children do for chores around the house? My 8 y/o cleans his room every night. He makes his school lunch, feeds the dog, helps his dad with yard work.
They clean their rooms, make their lunches, help me clean up the living room, clean up the bathroom, Elise unloads the dishwasher, clean up the backyard..........
Our kids are all expected to keep their rooms clean, get dirty clothes into the laundry, and put away their clean folded laundry. The older kids (both 9) also sometimes help fold.
The 9 year olds are responsible for after dinner chores every night. These are divided into two lists, and they swap every other night. One child cleans the kitchen counters and stove, scrapes the dishes and stacks them on the stove, brings the scrapings/leftovers out to the chickens and the compost, and sweeps the kitchen floor. The other clears the table, wipes down the table and the chairs, takes out the trash, and sweeps the dining room. This takes about 1/2 an hour if they focus and tend to business.
DS is also our 'recycling coordinator'. He is responsible for processing recycling (rinsing out cans, etc) and sorting into redeemable and non-redeemables, and getting the non-redeemables out to the curb on pickup day. He gets to keep all the redeemables.
My boys make their beds every day, clean their rooms, clean the family room, feed the dog, my oldest also helps with cleaning up after the dog in the yard and helping dad mow the yard. The youngest takes out the trash.
My 10 yr old is expected to keep her room clean, and put away her clean laundry (I do it while kids are at school). Those are her everyday chores. A few days a week she unloads/loads the dishwasher, takes out trash, washes a load of laundry, and cleans downstairs rooms. It really depends on how much homework she has.
My 5 yr old just helps with whatever she wants to. She loves to help clean so she is willing to do whatever. She really likes to wipe down the table, counters, and stove. She puts away her laundry (it usually all ends up in one drawer), and likes to sweep/mop.
my son cleans his room, helps clean the living room, picks up dirty clothes from the upstairs bathroom(mainly his clothes a few of my DDs things in there too), unlaods the dishwasher, and makes his bed.
If he is bored and says he has nothing to do I find him something to clean lol. He has so many toys and books and he can play outside so he shouldn't be bored ever. lol one day I made him clean the walls in his room because i caught him picking his nose and wiping it on the wall. He really hated that one. lol I thought it was funny he has never let me catch him putting boggers on the wall again.
Wesley(5) feeds the dog's and cat, picks up his toys/colthes at the end of the night, helps with either dishes or laundry, he takes out the recycling. He loves to help and we give him a small allowance. He chooses to do the chores and does a pretty good job. I am proud he likes to help. He also helps with yard work.
I have an 11 yo girl and a 9 yo boy. They rotate chores randomly...I change them every 3-4 months so they get something new and learn to do everything well. RIght now my son unloads the dishwasher, takes garbage to canisters and then to curb on garbage day. My daughter loads the dishwasher and cleans the counters. They both are responsible for their own rooms, pets and laundry (one basket a week) anything extra I wash...sheets, blankets, coats, anything over that one basket a week. They also help to put way their clean clthes although my son drives me crazy putting it any old place then saying he has no clean boxers! UGH
my boys r 9&10 they clean there room and take turns taking out the trash that is all i ask of them during the school year oh and they r to pick up after themselves now in the summer we do a team cleaning and they put up there own laundry and help me do something i usually give them one big thing to do evreyday and we do it twice a day usually one of them will vaccum one will put up the dishes and one will go through and make sure there is no dirty clothes in the bedrooms and we will do it in the morning then that evening after dinner.... oh and let me add that my 9 year old has a couple of our negihbors that he dose odd jobs for and usually gets paid about 6 dollars a week he will take there garbage out for them once or twice a week we live in like condos and have a dumpster at the end of our street dont worry its a dead end street so he takes it down for them and once a week he picks up any trash around the complexes and the manager that runs the properties pays him usually 3 dollars to do it so he keeps himself busy he loves doing it
