I'm so worried about him being able to find lunch, then his class. He's been looking forward to kindergarten and riding the bus forever. He went to Headstart, and hes smart and social but I still worry about him.
I wish I could have been one of those mommies who followed the school bus, however I have to work. And my stupid car had to go in the shop on my lunch break so I couldn't sneak a peak into his class room.
lol i'm having the same worries. DD goes on the bus starting on monday and i'm nervous that she will get lost lol. it's such a big school for such a little girl. the principal has assured me that there are about 7 or 8 teachers who "meet the buses" for the first week to make sure the kids get to the right rooms. and after that there is always at least 1 teacher on bus duty.
He'll be fine. The teachers will be extra helpful on the first days of school.

I was so nervous about the first day of kindergarten for my son.. I was filled with alot of "what if's".. and then the day came.. I took him to his bus stop, there were 2 other boys there.. I figured he'd hang on me since he didn't know them.. but nope.. he went right over to them and started talking.. I thought "well he's not gonna want to get on the bus, he'll come crying to me".. when the bus came he got right on the bus with a "bye mom, luv ya!" ..not even a hug! I nearly cried, but didn't. I waited nervously at home all day thinking the phone was gonna ring with the school on the other end saying how upset he is or something.. but nope.. so when it was time to get him off the bus.. I waited nervously again thinking he'd come off crying.. but once again he had a big grin on his face as he got off the bus, he ran to me with open arms and said " I had a great day mom!"
Not sure how your schools do things.. but at our elementary school the teachers and teacher aids, even the older children help the younger ones around.. making sure they go where they need to go, get on the right bus and everything.
Our district only has one location for the SACC program and she gets bussed from one school to another. I was so nervous for her, I watched her get on the bus today then was that mom that followed the bus. There was only 4 kids from her school being bused and they dropped them off 20 minutes before school started!!! There where no teachers there to meet her either. I was so upset. I immediately called the principal and was reassured that this would not happen again... needless to say, I will be late for work again tomorrow so I can follow the bus once again!
at my sons school in the morning the kids aren't allowed off the bus till a teacher comes and gets them. and in the afternoon his teacher personally puts him and all the other kids on the bus. and the bus driver isn't allowed to drop the kindergartners off without a parent or approved adult
Kids are funny. I thought mine would have a problem getting ON the bus. But they gave me a hug and a kiss got on the bus and never looked back. They came home with their lunches because they said they didn't have time to eat. LOL too much talking and fooling around I guess. Came home talked my ear off and then they were ready to crash at 7pm. I guess it wore them out. Good luck they will do fine. Us parents worry about them more then they do. Mine acted like it was no big deal. while I am sitting at home crying cuz I miss them so much LOL Good luck!!!
Quoting SarahNKnapp:He's home and Im still at work but he seems to have had a good time.
I'm happy to hear that :)
My dd missed the bus on her first day of K. I still don't understand how the teacher didn't manage to get her on the bus. I was not happy. Poor thing was crying when I got to the school to pick her up. She cried off and on for about an hour and a half. She was very nervous about going the next day, but I told her it won't happen twice. I also talked to the bus driver who said she will not pull away without her. I also told my dd that now she knows what to expect if it ever happens again, you go to the office, they call me, I come right over to get you. I got her off the bus the next and the bus driver did say Well she's on the bus, but I had to send for her. I still don't understand why the teacher can't get it straight and get her out on time. But she came off smiling and happy as heck to see me. It made my day. Point is there are adults all over the place to care for our kids. I told her other than being at home, school is the safest place she can be. And even though that happened I still do feel that way.
