I try to find something different everyday to compliment, encourage or appreciate about them and then I tell them all about it.

Every night I tell them I love them. We tell them when they've done a good job on things, and when we're proud of them (and what we're proud of them for).

I dont believe that you can build someone else's self esteem.  Self esteem comes from doing, learning, making mistakes and correcting them.  THAT builds self esteem... it is not given.

HOWEVER......... you can help create opportunities.  You can allow your child to make choices, you can point out the child's success (i think the above poster mentioned that), you can help the child figure out how to acknowledge and correct a mistake, you can create opportunities to try new things, etc. etc. etc.
