Teachers and tattoos ***PIC OF CHEST TATTOO ADDED***
Before I decided to enter a teaching certification program, I got a fairly big tattoo across my chest. The tattoo represents my daughter and my life. Tons of meaning in it. I do not regret my tattoo. I wear it proudly.
However, I am aware that it will likely pose a problem when I get a teaching position. I'm already looking for shirts that will cover it up. I have several other tattoos which will almost always be visable, but they are much smaller. I see no problem with these. I've seen teachers with small tattoos. No biggie.
I don't like the fact that I know some people might have a problem with my chest piece. Some people just don't 'get' tattoos and form opinions about people with them.
Hubby is upset that I feel like I will need to cover my chest piece up. I think that possibly once I establish myself as a teacher, maybe a few years down the road, I will be able to wear tops that reveal it more. It wouldn't require inappropriate clothing to show it.
I'm curious about your thoughts on this. How would you feel if you met your childs teacher and she had a large tattoo across her chest? Do you think it would be an issue? Why?
For the teachers in the group, what are your experiences with teachers with large tattoos? Does it cause problems for them?
