getting kicked out of school

So DD is in Pre-K. She goes to school the next Co. Over to which I have to pay for even though its a public school. I just got a letter in the mail saying DD had missed 8 days of school and that might risk her from being able to attend next term. I can only come up with 4 days. 3 which she was sick and under doctors care and 1 day I let her stay home cause it was the last day before my sister and family moved to Germany for 3 years. Am really upset about this. Am going to ask the school for a list of when she was out cause I just can not come up with any more days. And this term she has missed 1 day to get her teeth cleanned and checked, I know of 2 more days she will have to mess with in this mouth as well. I just can't belive that they are telling me she might not be able to go next term when I know there are kids in the Co. That misses days all the time but they can't kick them out. Then in the letter it said if she is ever to fall behind in school they will review her record and she may be kicked out as well. Really?

I have heard about that in elementary school, not sure about pre-k.  I have heard about one student that had special permission to be in my dd's school got kicked out because the student kept on coming in late.  I have not heard it about falling behind though.  Also I have heard, in my school district, that if the superintentant finds out that there are too many students in a grade before Sept., the school will send a letter to the parent telling them that the student has to go back to his school he is supposed to be in.

Its a small Co. So that is why they take in the extra kids to help cover the cost. The cost goes up depending on the down fall in the budget. I was not even told about this before she started. The letter they sent had the grades sectioned off and each on had to meet goals and all but there was nothing about pre-k. Now I could understand if she was a problem child or something but she is not. All the teachers love her even the girls in the office. It said that they could only miss 14 days for the year. Each time she missed I have called to let them know and sent a note when she returned. I have singed her out early maybe 3 times but it was for doctors visit and sent a doctors note the next day. In GA pre-k is not even counted its an if you want to go kinda thing. Am not sure if this is going to work because if she has to miss days cause of an allergic reaction, doctor visit which I try to sent for fridays and late as I can but some doctors will only do things on one day a week and at set times. We will have to see

1 mom liked this

When a school takes a student out of zone they can set parameters for attendance, behavior or anything else. I would call and talk to them about it for sure.

I would not only call and ask, but would ask to get this in writing, so they can't turn around 3 months from now and say something else.

Sorry they are giving you a hard time!

Just because it does not count as required schooling it is still school. It is just as important as any other schooling because this is the foundation for her academic career. That is a lot of time missed already and then to be so whatever about the fact that you know she will miss two more days this month alone is horrific. It is showing your kid that school is not important. I agree with the school.

Wait a min. DD goes to school every day unless she is under doctors orders not to go or has a doctors appt. They can not be done any other time. I have only let her stay out 1 times not being a doctor appt or sick. She loves school and is ahead of her class in learning. So you need back off. School is important which why she has been going to preschool since 2! And I am not what ever about it I am try to figure where they came up with the day which is why I am going to talk with the school. Yes she has to miss 2 more days this month for medical test that the doctor only does on set days and times, which is at 9am. So you need step back before you go jumping and saying I don't care about her education. If that was even true she would just go to the crap ass school where we live and I would not be putting out over 200 a month for her to go to a public school.

If you are out of your home district, they can kick you out for these reasons, at least in Michigan. AND they do not guarantee a place each year, you have to reapply every year and hope you get back in.

Because it's public school, they have to have room for any children that are in their district so out of district children are the last ones admitted and the first kicked out.

Take a deep breath and go to the school and see what days they have for her. If they are accurate, then make sure she doesn't miss anymore school. Reschedule the dentist until after school.

If you are on a boundary exception, they can absolutely kick you out for attendance issues.  You most likely signed a form when you were accepted saying this very thing.  I will also say if they think you are an attendance problem this early in the academic career, don't be surprised if they deny you for next year.

You back off I made a observation of how you came off. You knew what the schools policies were and it is a problem for your scheduling. So don't get pissy with me. Because you feel the rules are not fair. And when you make statements like it doesn't count its only pre school that is a whatever attitude.

That is my plan....the 2 more days she has to miss is for important medical test that can not wait and they are only done on Tuesdays at 9am, I tired to get a different time but they will not do it. But am going to talk with them on Monday morning for sure, I was just taken back when I got the letter last night. I have a feeling that there are some miss count on days because her bus was late 2 times I know of.
