My family doesn't get why I don't put pictures of my DD on FaceBook. I don't because THEY don't manage their privacy settings very well and I don't want DD's pictures floating around the web. Don't think it can happen? Check out this
Police in Charlton, the district attorney’s office and the FBI are investigating the copying and posting of Bay Path students’ Facebook photos on a website that includes child pornography.
Lt. Carl G. Ekman said he is working with 17 students at Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical School whose Facebook photographs were lifted and reproduced on the website.
“All of the girls were fully clothed in the photographs, but we are urging the utmost caution and appropriate privacy settings on the part of students with Facebook accounts,” he said.
Lt. Ekman said yesterday he is unsure what could be done to curtail the practice or shut down the website, because it is based outside the United States.
After notifying the Worcester office of the FBI, Lt. Ekman said, he called up the site and found photographs of students posted along with either town signs or school signs.
“Anyone who views this site might reasonably expect a visit from police, because this website definitely includes kiddie porn,” Lt. Ekman said.
The lieutenant said he was certain that the depiction of Bay Path students on this site is not an isolated occurrence and that students throughout the region should be aware of the risk, and limit information accordingly.
“There’s only one way to be completely safe from such exploitation,” the lieutenant said: Limit access to your Facebook page.
On Friday, based on a telephone call from Bay Path officials, the Tantasqua Regional School District warned its students that Facebook photographs could end up on websites that they never intended. Superintendent Daniel D. Durgin called on parents, guardians and students to make students’ settings more private.
Paul Jarvey, spokesman for Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr., said the office had been in contact with Bay Path and the Tantasqua Regional School District and had offered assistance.
Lt. Ekman said because the FBI is swamped with investigations of similar sites and there is no guarantee this website could be shut down, the best safeguard is securing one’s Facebook account.

WOW... they are on the other site with the name of their school next to the photo? Scary.
People need to realize they need to treat facebook like a public viewing area. Yeah you have privacy settings but if you wouldn't put in as an ad in the paper then don't post it. You should never put any private information on there. Such as locations or phone numbers. I have no problem posting pictures since no private info goes with them. Although there are ways to secure private info securely.

I still do. Would rather not have my DD's face posted on a kiddie porn site. KWIM?
I respect your decision and totally understand it. I would make sure it is never posted anywhere on the internet. You also better watch any public pictures of your daughter including year book pictures as well. I have heard of pictures of kids taken from other places such as professional pictures being used as well.

You are absolutely correct.
I cannot prevent it 100% -- but I can surely try to reduce the possibilities!

Like Rora, I have no pictures of my children on FB. Those who are my FB friends know that they only picture I have there is of a nekkid body part of mine. Most of you also know that I rarely ever post pics of my kids here and only a few know their first names.
My son's preschool has a Facebook page this year. They are all excited about it.
I told the director and teachers I didn't want my son's name or picture up on the site. I asked that his face be blurred out of any group photos, as well.
The teacher started to protest saying, "Only people the school friends can see the pictures." But I told her there's no way to control who those friends share the information with; basically making the site open to a whole range of people we don't know.
NO way did I want some stranger to scout my son. He would know his name, what he looks like, what school he goes to, and what time he was there!
