Classic books (PIOG)

I missed out on a lot of classic children's books. I didn't read much when I was younger. My mom never encouraged reading either. Once I was a bit older I did discover that I loved to read but still had no idea that I "should" read the classics. I read Sweet Valley Twins/High, Goosebumps, Fear Street.  I am wanting to put together a list of some great classic books for my DD mostly but also for DS.  She has been reading the Little House books. Well she is reading Little House on the Prairie on her own and her teacher is reading Little House in the Big Woods to the class. She likes them. So I think she would enjoy some other classics. She is an advanced reader so I am wanting only chapter books and she is 7.  So what books would you recommend?

When you think she's ready for it, Dickens is always a good choice.

Swiss Family Robinson is another good one. And Jesse Stuart books. I <3's A Penny's Worth of Character.

The giver
a wrinkle in time
Watership down

Those are both awesome books, but not sure if they're age appropriate. My oldest
read them when he was about 8, he's 10 now and his teacher said he'll be reading them next year for school. Theyre good for adults, too (well, I like them anyway :))

My daughter just read Wizard of Oz (the unabridged original version) - major AR pts! :) It was first published in 1900. We had a good discussion about the differences of the story versus the movie version. She liked the book better that the movie story.

Another classic is A Cricket in Times Square, Charlottes Web, Little Women.

If your daughter likes Mermaids there is a book about The Tale of Emily Windsnap.

Here is the whole list

This one is pretty easy. She could read it on her own.
