Reading the news this morning and and ark. woman was arrested for trying to teach her 10year old a valueable lesson. Her 10 year old son had been kicked off the school bus 5X for yelling. He actually got suspended from riding the school bus. The punishment: She made him walk 4.6miles  to school. when he was walking a guy had noticed the boy called the cops and the mother was arrested. Whats your take on the situation? Do you think what she did was ok? Her son told news crews that he was ok walking the 4.6mile that he learned his lesson.

My Dh mom did this to him too. Except she drove along side of him. He said it was rainin but he also likes to be dramatic. I think it's a bit too much IMO

That's ridiculous. Who hasn't missed the bus at least once in their school life and had to walk to school? Back in the 70s I and another girl missed the bus and we walked the 5 miles in the SNOW to school. No one gave us a second look.

The only problem I see with that is that I would be afraid something would happen to him along the way, but I'm paranoid like that. Walking 4 1/2 miles though?!? A 10 year old should be more than capable of handling that kind of excercise.

I walked that many miles to or from school quite a few times due to me missing the bus. I do not see where it hurt me any. Infact I still walk that many miles quite a bit and in any kind of weather.

I saw this and was blown away by it. i feel us as mothers really have to watch how we parent or choose to punish our children. I give the mom kudos for what she did. it reminds me of the Facebook dad. they are teaching there kids valueable lessons but yet get penilized for it because its not OK in other peoples views

I don't have any problems with it.  My only concern would be for his safety.  From the time I was 9/10 to the time I was 15 there were 3 separate occasions where men tried to get me into their cars while I was walking to and from school.  I think that this mom was completely justified in what she did (and taught her son a valuable lesson) but if it was me, I would have either followed him in my car or walked behind him to make sure he got to school safely.

I don't disagree with the lesson she was teaching but he shouldn't have been alone.

No, I do not agree with that punishment.

We live that far from my son's school, and it would take over an hour and a half to walk one way. Plus, it's through downtown. There are busy streets and no sidewalks.

Actually, my son has been suspended from the bus before, and we make him work of the time my mom had to take out of her schedule to drive him to and from school. He did yardwork at her house, and he had to do at least 1/2 hour for every day that she had to drive him. He learned his lesson without his safety being a risk.
