Does your school still teach this?

Cursive handwriting, that is. Some of the school districts around here are not teaching it anymore. Guess they figure it's the least needed subject and can go to make more time to teach for standardized tests. I can't help but wonder how much longer before printing your name becomes the norm instead of a signature.

Ds2 is learning it now, and loves it. He's so proud that he can now write in cursive like Mommy does : )  Ds1, on the other hand, hates having to use it. He mostly prints because "the teachers don't make us use cursive." I can't make he see that if he practiced it more, it'd actually be faster to use than printing. Oh well.

I have heard that in certain places and it seems bad for hand development. Just IMO.

No, my kids schools have not taught cursive in yrs. But I have taken the time to make sure they can each write their names in cursive at least.

Yes, our school teaches cursive.  The kids learn in 3rd grade, I think.  By 5th grade it is required on all tests and papers that are turned into the teacher.

My kids school still teaches it.  My oldest son started learning it last year, and his teacher refuses to let him print anything.
