According to THIS source, approximately 10% of boys and 6% of girls between ages 5-10 are affected by a mental health issue such as depression... the numbers raise considerably for the age groups of 11-15.

And according to THIS source, a depressed child is very easy to go unnoticed by parents, teachers and other caregivers as well...

Depression symptoms are usually the same as they are in adults-

  • sad, feeling "empty" or anxious
  • hopeless or pessimisstic
  • feeling guilty, worthless or helpless
  • irritable, grouchy, restlessness
  • loss of interest in activities once pleasurable
  • decreased energy, fatigue
  • hard time concentrating, choosing, remembering details
  • sleeping too much or too little
  • overeating or loss of appetite
  • feeling like hurting themself or others
  • complaints of constant aches and pains

You can find out more by visiting the National Institute of Mental Health at the link below.  If you want support from others with depression you can join me in the Depression Support Center group also.
