My son has been home with me for the past 2 days because of gastro. I thought I was doing the same thing keeping him home, because it's such a contagious thing.
WELL......teacher called me about 10 minutes ago asking where he was because she was worried. I thought for a second that it was nice she was calling because she wanted to know if he was feeling alright. NO. She calls because she is worried he is sooooo far behind that she's going to have to keep him in at lunch for at least a week to catch up to the other children.
WTF?? We literally JUST got report cards a week ago, and all his grades are above average, and they all went UP from the first report card. There have been no notes in his agenda, and no letters from the teacher. I just about blew up at her, asking her what was going on at school that she couldn't take the time to call me and fill me in if there was such a big problem at school. She told me had he been at school the last 2 days he would be all caught up.
I call bullshit. I'm so pissed off right now that all I want to do is call the principal and find out if this is standard practice....that we aren't allowed to know if there is a problem with our children at school until they are so far behind they have to be kept in at recess and lunch to catch up. Instead, I'm going to lie on the couch and fume a little bit, then call, and ask nicely what's happening. I know that if I call now, things will not be pretty. They want us to be proactive with our kids and their homework and such at home, but I have no.fucking.clue when there's anything going on at school. Neither did my son obviously, because when I asked him about it, he burst into tears, and was so worried. Grrrrr........
