Here in my homestate of Hawaii, we have it also and I totally agree on the testing and stressing Children out. I wS not good at standardized tedting but testing in my classes about meterial learned I was fine. My son is in kindergarten so he has time but still dont like those tests.

The testing is actually state testing, and most states had it before NCLB.
My son still has state testing this year, even though we live in a state with a waiver from NCLB. There is state legislation involving in the state testing here, and if I was unhappy with that regulation, I would be contacting my local state legislators.
My son has had test testing a couple years now, and he actually looks forward to it because he has a break from homework on testing days....LOL

I am in Hawaii too. Luckily my daughter does not stress on tests. I know the teachers here are under more pressure this year because of tge "race to the top" funding.
