I just had to call the cops on a child, anyone else ever deal with something like this?
So I'll add a little back story. This is a small neighborhood with a lot of kids, for the most part they all play well together. My neighbor has custody of his 8 year old nephew, his nephew for awhile spent every afternoon playing in my yard or another neighbor's yard playing with my kids. Last week he came over with a boy I had never seen before. They two of them were playing nicely with my two girls for a little bit but then my girls, ages 7 and 6, came running in the house saying the new boy hit my 6 year old and dug his nails into her leg while my neighbor's nephew hit her with plastic baseball bat. When my 7 year old tried protecting her little sister the new boy tried choking her and dug his nails into her neck. I didn't see it happen and I didn't see any marks so I just kicked the boys out of my yard and told them to never step foot on my property again.
Today my 6 year old asked to go to her friend's house, she lives three houses down so I stood in my driveway and watched my girls go into their friend's house. 20 minutes later I heard my 6 year old yelling to me, so I went back out into the driveway and saw both of my girls running home while their friend's mom was screaming at the new boy and asking why he hit my DD. My girls told me the boy had slapped my 6 year old twice in the face. She had a slightly red mark on her cheek and it was obvious that my neighbor had seen him do it. So I called the police department's non-emergency line and asked them to send someone out. While waiting for the cop another neighbor came out and asked the boy's name, she said he looked familiar, she told me he was the same boy who hit her niece across the back with a board last summer.
So the cop shows up I tell him everything that happened today and last week. The boy and my neighbor's nephew were two houses down standing on the sidewalk. My other two neighbors were standing in their driveways because they heard me say I was calling the cops. The cop said he'd talk to the boy, find out where he lives, and talk to his folks. He said if it continued happening to call them back and they'll investigate it more. I told him I was hoping having an actual cop talk to him would scare him enough to stop hitting little girls. I stood outside while the cop talked to the boy, I heard the boy say he lived on another street - that street is a good two miles away. The cop ended up having the boy get in the back of his cruiser and took him home, I'm assuming the cop will be speaking to his parents. I'm hoping the boy doesn't come back to this neighborhood.
I've never in my life had to call the cops before for any reason, so I'm just wondering if any of you have had to call the cops for this reason or something similar.
