The nurse bought my kids shoes...how would you feel in this situation?
I'm kind of conflicted. My 7 year old, Jenna, has a lot of shoes. Last week she was wearing a pair of sneakers that she's only had a few weeks and somehow the bottom of one shoe started to separate from the rest of the shoe, because it was just the bottom of the shoe I didn't notice but my daughter complained about it while at school and the nurse gave her a spare pair of shoes to wear the rest of the day, the next day she returned the shoes and I threw the pair falling apart away and she just wore another pair of her shoes.
Yesterday my 6 year old, Brianna, comes home with new shoes, I asked her where she got them and she said the nurse gave them to her and told her she could keep them. Now Brianna doesn't have many shoes because she's very picky about them and most stores have nothing she likes. I usually have to go to an actual shoe store to find shoes for her. She had her old pair of sneakers for less than two months but tore open the front of both sneakers by using her feet as brakes on her bike instead of the pedals. I had every intention of going to the store this weekend to find her another pair of sneakers.
Today Jenna comes home and asks me to look at her new sneakers, which the nurse bought for her. The sneakers she wore to school are only two months old and still in perfect condition. I asked her why the nurse was buying her and her sister new shoes, she said it's because the nurse loves them which I understand. Both of my girls are very social and often visit the women working in the office and the nurse, every time I go into the school everyone gushes about how cute and wonderful my kids are.
So while I appreciate the nurse's gifts I don't want anyone thinking I can't keep good shoes on my kid's feet which is why I feel conflicted about it. I don't know if I should call the nurse and explain why my girls were in crappy shoes last week and this week, as well as thank her for her generosity or should I simply thank her and forget about the rest.
How would you feel and what would you do?
***Thank you for all the replies. The girls really love the shoes so I am letting them keep them. Brianna made a card for the nurse, Jenna is bringing her a butterfly banner she made and a small booklet of cupcake recipes we made last summer. I also left her a message this morning thanking her. I intend to donate some money to the school before the end of the year, also once I unpack all the clothes and shoes from storage I'm going to throw in all the kids shoes that they don't wear anymore but are still in good condition and some clothing which I'll either drop off before school lets out or when next year starts whichever is more convenient for the nurse.
