My daughter is eight years old and she appears to be a hop and a skip away from getting her period.  They call this trend Precocious Puberty. Does any one have any tips on how to explain the changes to my daughter.  She's only eight so I dont want to scare her or make her uncomfortable.   Please help!

I am in an in agreement as well.

Many moms have recommended an American Girl book called The care and keeping of you.  IMO 8 is not too young to begin talking about the changes that she will be facing in the coming years.  I would rather have her slightly uncomfortable talking about this now than have her freaking out when she finds her panties soaked in blood.

With girls....I think the mom. For boys.....the dad. If one is not present, do the best you can whether its boy or girl.

I used the American Girl book for my daughter at the age of eight as well because a girl in her class started her period.  Girls seem to be entering puberty earlier and earlier.  I agree with this post: Its better to have her uncomfortable than not knowing what is happening.

When I was in my tween my mother gave me a book so I might do they same but this time around have a open discussion with my son.  I don't think mother are better or father are better it all depend on parent feeling comfortable talking  puberty to their child.

I prefer to talk to my son when he ask me or when  he shows signs of puberty.

I think you still have a year or two before you have to talk to her about it
