So my daughter went to a sleepover birthday party Monday night, she is 9. While she was sleeping one of the other girls cut a chunk of her hair at the scalp. How do I approach this with the mom that hosted the sleepover? I am at a complete loss of what to say. If I figure out who did this I will be on their front steeps. I am sorry but that is assult and the girl is a bully. I am sad, I am mad, and I don't know what to do.
You can call the hosts mother to let her know what happened. That is what I would do. However, I don't know what the big issue is over this. These are little girls and no one was hurt, so I can't imagine assult charges being filed. Also being a bully is a lot more than pulling a silly prank on another child at a sleep over. Whenever I was a child we used to put the first girl to fall sleep's bra in the freezer. It was a silly prank and I am guessing that this very well was done as a prank as well. *shrugs* It's hair and it will grow back.
How would you like it if someone cut your hair while you were sleeping. My guess you would not like it one bit. Never once did I saw charges. But, yes when you cut someones hair with out their permission or knowledge it is assault and the child needs to know that you cannot act like that. Yes the girl that did this to my daughter was acting like a bully. There are many forms and this falls into one of those forms.
Putting bras in the freezer is one thing but when you cut someones hair that is another. It is unaccepatble behavior.

I would just let the host know and go from there. There was a case in the news about the teenager who was in court for cutting a young childs hair. Was the cutter typically your childs friend in waking hours? I can see this prank being done in teen years or young 20s but preteen I would try to find out why it happened.
I would call the host and then the mother of the girl who did it if you know who the girl is. Depending on the relationship between your daughter and this girl, it could be just a prank gone wrong or something malicious. I would get more information and take it from there.

It is just very frustrating. You don't just cut someones hair while they are sleeping. There were 8 girls at the party so I don't know who did it. If I did I would talk to the parents of that child and request that they apologize to my daughter. The other girl does need to understand that what they did was mean and hurtful. At the age of 9 talking with parents is the only thing that needs to be done.
I have talked with the host mom and she says that there is no way it could have happened their so I let it go. I am not going to upset her and make a big deal out of it. Girls talk and eventually it will come out who did it.
My daughter is friends with all the girls at the party. There are a few that will sometimes be mean, saying things to her, but that is also a 9 year old thing. My daughter is learning who are real friends and who aren't.
I doubt that I will ever learn who did this, but if I do I doubt that they will be invited for a sleep over her not will my daughter go to a sleepover they are at.
I do have my guess of which girl did this but will not take any action, talking to parents, on solely a guess.

That doesn't make any sense. Didn't the mom see your daughter when she came and again when she left? If her hair was cut at the scalp, couldn't she tell? I would have addressed it when I picked my daughter up and saw her missing a chunk of hair.
The way my daughter was wearing her hair when I picked her up it was not noticed. The was right in the center of the forehead hairline. My daughter parts her hair on the side and when I picked her up they had been swimming and she had her hair in a somewhat side ponytail. I noticed it after we got home and I was fixing her hair for dance.
I didn't want to cause ripples with the mom, but still does not take way from the fact my daughter has been upset and and does not know who to trust from the party.

Ah, that makes sense. Poor kid. Putting a friend's bra in the freezer or other pranks like that are harmless; what her "friends" did was pure mean.
