So just a little background. I am a mother of 3 boys one which who is 5 and will be starting kindergarten this year. My husband is a welder/ pipefitter and travel everywhere. Our 5 year attended Pre-K last year at one of our local elementary schools. We are having some behavior issues with him as he doesn't want to listen to me and think it is since he isn't with his dad much. We have talked about wanting to homeschool him for his Kindergarten year and see how it goes and I am wanting some advice from people to see what they think of this? I am concerned that it will hurt him in the long run with his education and am scared of that. Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to the group. I don't homeschool, but there are many moms here that do. Here is a bump for more responses.

Try the Homeschooling Moms group and the Happy Homeschoolers...ggreat groups...

It can be done and most kids benefit from it. Especially boys! It takes a total lifestyle overhaul to make it work. To curb the fighting and become a team.

I'm pretty sure there's a homeschool group who can offer information. I'm curious though, how did he do in pre-K? It's common for kids to act one way at home and another at school. My DD is a total teacher pleaser and sometimes when I get glowing reports from teachers it's like they're describing another kid, not mine. LOL! Also, keep in mind that boys mature slower and can have some issues adjusting to school but they can outgrow it.

He did well in school. We never had an behavioral issues there. The problems I have are that he is 5 and throws some terrible tantrums and just all around doesn't listen.

Homeschooling moms is a great group.

I just started homeschooling my 8 year old DS.
What I'm doing is starting in the summer ( actually started last week) just to see if it would work out and then if it doesn't and It's not working.
He just goes to school in the fall and there's no loss. LOL

This is also what I have been doing. We started last week and I just wanted to see how he would do and if he would listen to me. He seems to be doing well so far.

You are welcome to send me PM if you'd like. My 10 year old has been homeschooled her entire life.

I think this normal for his age. I would keep working to find a discipline that works...but I wouldn't homeschool just for this reason.
