Last year my DD decided she wanted to pack her lunch but because I couldn't find a lunchbox that I felt kept her food cold come lunch time, it was PB&J daily.  She ased for it, but she also suggested other things for me to just turn them down because I didn't wan her to get sick if it wasn't still cool come lunch.

What kinds of things do you pack for lunch?  She's going to 1st grade and her new school has us packing everyday but possibly Thursdays when the money for bought lunch goes to school trips.

What kind of lunchbox do you use?  Has anyone tried the "Packit?"

Not much help.  My DS uses a regular lunchbox, but he loves and wants a pb&j daily.  We do send in a mixture of side things chips,  prepackaged apple slices, bannanas,  crackers. etc.  He also get to fruitable juice boxes to go with his lunch.

I have a lunch box that freezes and stays cold all day. My son is going into middle school this year and it's not cool to carry a lunch box anymore. I also keep the container that I put his sandwich in, in the freezer and that also helps.

I use an insulated lunch bag. I got it for $9 at Walmart and have had it for about 2 years with no problems. I use a frozen bottle of water & frozen yogurt to keep my fruit & sandwich cold. Never have had anything spoil. Sometimes the yogurt and water is not fully defrosted by my lunch break, but I am fine with that, as long as my food is safe.

My daughter rarely takes home lunch, but when she does, she uses mine and her food stays cold.

I know, we are going to be sending Caden with his lunch daily since he's allergic to most foods as it is.  I can't rely on the school to provide a safe lunch for him (its a lot more than just peanuts).  But he's in preschool now where I send him to school with a lunch box.  I use "easy lunch boxes" (easylunchboxes.com).  It comes with tupperware type containers that are devided, so I can put a main course (sandwihich, spaghetti, etc) in the big section and fruits/veggies and nibblets in the second section.  There's enough room on top for a second tupperware filled, or some baggies with snacks or yogurt as well :).  I stick any sort of ice packet in there and his yogurt is somehow still cold by teh end of the day (if he chose not to eat it).

I bought a hopskip lunch box last year for my son to take to preschool. He usually took a thermos food container and a drink bottle. So those alone kept food and drinks at the right temp but sometimes I would pack some meat and cheese rolls and a frozen gogurt and a small ice pack. I would pack it at 7 and when I picked him up at 1 it was still cold. There were days he ate in the cafeteria and didn't touch his lunch and it was still good to eat when he got home.

I used a laptop lunch box bento box.  I have 2 slim cooler bags that go on the top and bottom inside of the insulated case.

I have a regular lunch box for both my kids (3rd and 9th grades) and I use the small square ice packs. we have never had a problem with the food spoiling. I pack a sandwich, chips, juice drink, yogurt, and a dessert. I have also used the pre-packaged apples so they don't turn brown. For times when the kids want something warm (mac/cheese, spaghetti, soup, taco meat) I have a Thermos that I put that in and it is fine!

I was going to suggest this too. I don't have one yet but have heard great things about them. And I'm getting one for my 1st grader.

I use an insulated lunch box with a cold pack inside. I don't have a bento type box but I use ziplock reusable containers rather than sandwich bags. My youngest is the only one that packs and he is weird when it comes to eating lunch. Many times I  pack leftovers or cereal. Like me, he's not a big sandwich eater

that's exactly what we did last year for dd...with sides like that other than the chips.  Instead we used those 100 calories packs :)
