Half day vs full day...Opinions? (piog)

Just curious on others' opinions about kindergarten. My oldest dd had half day, and my next dd had full day (as did I). I thought full day was much more productive and that they learned so much more...What do you think?

Our district was the first in our area to implement a full day kindergarten program. My dd's graduating class (2012) was the first students to go all day. I 've always supported it I think it was one of the best decisions our district made. I think it has gotten better since that first year both of my sons (ages 10 and 7) have gone through full day K too.

In my area we have only had full day for a very long time!

The academic rigor of k is very high - I don't see how the end of the year standards could be reached in a half day model.

Full day is required by the state here so half day isn't an option. I don't see the point in only going for a couple of hours a day so I'm glad they have full days.

None of kids had this option. I wish they did.

My kids both went to full day kindergarten, due to necessity, as I worked full time. They went to Catholic school though, which I chose in part for their full day kindergarten.

Our public school district at the time only had half day kindergarten.

I'm a proponent of full day kindergarten, anyway.

I would vote for full day. The pre-kindergarten at my school is half day. The kids either go from 8 to 11 or 12 to 3. In that 3 hours, the kids have 30 minutes of recess and 45 minutes for specials/whole group. That doesn't leave much time for actual learning.

I love full day K. It gives Zach the time he needs to assimilate what is going on in the class as well as learn the social skills he will need in life.

My kids all had 1/2 day K. Our school will still only have 1/2 day this year as far as I know. I don't have anything to compare it to, but I liked that they only went 1/2 day. I felt like I could add to what they were learning when they were home and learn about other things as well. Our district always has high test scores and ranks well- we are always neck and neck with one other school district for highest test scores out of about 20 in the area- and most of them have full day K- so it seems like it works for us.

There are 12 slots per grade for all day K for kids who need extra help- they are the only ones that go all day in K here.

Edit: Above should read "there are 12 slots per elementary school..." not per grade. There are 4 elementary schools in our district.

I vote 1/2 day. DS went to 1/2day and I liked it.
He wouldn't have done good in all day kindergarten.
Imo even if It's only a year later that they go all day, children that young don't need to be in school all day.

IDK a lot of parents like it though because it cuts daycare cost.
