This article talks about the family model with a stay at home dad being absent from the children's book market. I never really thought about that before. But I haven't really read any books where the mom works full time and Dad is at home.
(I do think Arthur and D.W.'s dad works from home. And those books are older. Way to be progressive Marc Brown!)
Are there other things you've noticed missing in children's books?
Hmm I shall have to think on this one. But you are right Arthur's dad owns a catering business and works from home.
I never noticed. I hardly read books that have that kind of twist to them, so who knows. In my view, it doesn't matter who stays home, who works.....as long as the family works :).
Oh I can think of TONS that is "missing" or at least marginalized in children's books
That show... ugh.... I added that one to a list of shows that if i could I would file charges on the characters. lol

This is a great article but I would not be surprise if I go to children book section they have all different type of books for each ethnic group, culture and family.
