We went to see a pediatric urologist yesterday because there was concern about my son's testicles. His testes don't hang very low into the scrotum and at the last check-up the dr could not get them to come down at all. That is what prompted the appointment with the specialist.
Turns out he needs a procedure done to basically bring them down into the scrotum where they belong. Right now they are up inside his body (the doctor showed us where you can feel them under his "fat pad". So they are going to call us today or tomorrow to make that appointment. They will put him under, which makes me a little nervous, but the doctor said at his age (he is 5 btw) they tolerate the anesthesia better than most adults do. Then they will make two tiny incisions and then do what they need to do to bring them down. There will be a minor recovery period where he might be sore in that area for a few days.
Overall it sounds like it will be a fairly simple, straight-forward procedure but anything like this will make a parent nervous. If any of you have any experience with this I would love to hear your story to help me feel better prepared. The doctor commented that 5% of full-term males end up having this issue in the first few years of life. So I guess it's not incredibly rare. We know we do want to get it done now because I don't want him coming back to me 20 years down the road blaming me for the fact that he and his wife can't have kids. : |
Thanks for any input.
