Do you have an after school schedule?

My boys start school next week (Wednesday) and I really want to create some sort of after school schedule that can be followed most days. My 4th grader does really well with lists, a written plan of action, etc. My little guy is starting kinder and I want to start him on good habits with homework right away.

I was thinking something like...

3:00 - snack

3:30 - homework for 30 minutes to 1 hour (older DS will be one hour and younger will be 30 minutes)

4:30 - maybe a small chore?

5:00 - video games while I start to prepare dinner

Once dinner is ready they will eat, than shower, and relax the rest of the night?

It's simple, but I think having it posted for them to see, will help keep them on track.

Anybody else have anything like this?

Here is our basic one that I am working on. I still need to find out the days cub scouts, soccer, and hiking group will meet.

3:30- Jeremy gets out of school but by the time I get him and get out to the car, it will be 3:45

3:45- Healthy snack in the car

4:00- Gym

5:00- Get Jeremy started on homework while I start dinner.

After homework, he can play on his DS until dinner.

6:00- Dinner

6:30- Clean up from dinner

7-8- Spend time with Jeremy (watch a movie, do a science experiment, art craft, etc.

8-9- Jeremy get ready for bed- snack, bath, brush teeth, read

9- Bedtime

Other than days where we have Tae Kwon Do, which changes everything, here's a general schedule-

leave school at 3:30 (we get out at 3:15, but I teach there, so we can't leave until the buses are gone)

snack and MAYBE one PBS cartoon while I get settled in from MY long day (until 4:30pm max)

4:30- homework until it's done...since it's Kinder, i may add a little extra here if it's TOO simple or TOO little- I want him to be challenged

PBS or sports (he's into soccer and football, but it's hard to catch soccer this late and football this early) until 6pm, when the tv is going off

dinner probably at 7, due to husband's work schedule

play and relax until 8, when he will start getting ready for bed

must be in bed by 9 (I say that because over the past couple years of pre-k and reducing naps and such, at one point he was not sleeping until 10:30 or 11, even if he was in his room he couldn't settle down...and over the summer it's closer to this time because it's Ramadan and we don't eat until 8:40 right now...but I will be strict starting when Ramadan is over- I think that's 2 weeks before school starts)

We also have to be up at 6:30am (by 7 for my son) in order to get to school for me to do morning duties before it starts, so it IS an early day.  Weekends are very different because husband sleeps late and there's generally no hw at his age on weekends.

My kids get home at 2:45. The younger two do their homework right away (so far, anyway, as they were only in 2nd and 1st grades and didn't have much homework and didn't really need a break before starting), and my oldest takes a 20-30 minute break and then starts his homework.

I prep dinner in the kitchen while he works at the dining room table (it's an open floor plan) if his homework goes into that time (my DH works 2 jobs and is only here from 5:20-5:50 b/w jobs, so dinner has to be on the table at a pretty exact time). If the kids' activities are that night we then leave-- if not, we just play it by ear and the kids have free time.

ETA: Some of their activities overlap these times. We work around it as needed and I'll do crockpot meals or leave something for DH to warm up on those nights. Sometimes on those nights my oldest HAS to start homework right away (woe to us! lol) or has to do homework later when he gets home. Have I mentioned on here (more than 6 dozen times??) how much I am dreading his homework load this year??

Our basic schedule is snack, homework, dinner, finish homework (I have a 6th grader that often has tons of homework), play time, shower, snack, read, lights out.  Although 2-3 nights a week we have meetings or practices that we have to go to after dinner.  So our schedule needs to be very loose as things change daily around here.

Our dd starts 5th grade Aug 22ed, we have to have a schedule! She has karate, swimming, dancing...plus homework, so without a schedule our home doesn't run well! And our dd doesn't like not having a schedule, i think it five's her a sense of security and organization.

We really don't have a schedule but they have to do homework when they get home.  The only one with a bedtime routine is my youngest.

Well, it sounds great but theres just going to be those days when things don't always work out.. really don't have a schedule just come home if you got home work do it.. eat something the night is ours til showers n teeth maybe a show n bed by 10 I hope for but its nit fool proof.. I would jusy leave room for flexibility nothing to rigid:) but my kids are older too so that makes a diff too..
