So what's the big deal with having new underwear for the start of school?
Quoting aj23:I buy it at the start of school because that's when the bonus packs are out. I know he will need new at some point in the year and if I can buy it now, on sale and get a few more pairs per pack then I would rather do that.
My 9 year son is short and small for his age, so much so that he still fits into clothes he got several years ago, too. So, it's highly unlikely that he'll outgrow any underwear I buy him now, anytime soon.
And as my kids wear uniforms, I have to buy their uniforms now. I can't wait until later in the year. My daughter needs all new uniforms, going from elementary to high school, and the uniforms being entirely different. And my son, being a boy, totally wore out and stained up his uniforms from last year. I threw all of his old uniforms away, and bought him a new set.
Plus, uniform type clothes are always on sale right now. My son wears white polos, and navy blue uniform pants/shorts. I ordered him them from the Children's Place, when they had all uniforms on sale online, plus an extra 25% off with a coupon code, and free shipping on orders over $50. They won't be having sales like that on uniforms later in the year.
My daughter's uniforms have to come from a local uniform store, and starting in June, they get backordered on pretty much everything, especially the plaid skirts. As she starts school August 20th, I had to order her uniforms several weeks ago, just to be able to get her uniforms by the 1st day of school.
Quoting steelcrazy:I don't get it either. What do you do if your kid doesn't do much growing until the winter and you just bought them new underwear at the start of school in the same size that they had been wearing? That doesn't make any sense to me.
My boys get all their clothing and shoes when they need them, meaning when their current ones are either worn badly or outgrown. I don't do any clothing shopping this time of the year because the clothing that they are currently wearing still fits them and it is too early to be thinking about winter clothing.
My 7 yr. old is small too, I just put his 5T pants away because he finally outgrew them. I rarely have to buy him new clothes, in fact his wear out before they don't fit anymore.
Quoting PinkieRed:
Well, my daughter's 14, and I'm pretty sure she's done growing. She's worn the same size for two years now, including the same ladies size 9 shoes. The last real growth spurt she had was several years ago, after she started her menstrual cycles. I don't forsee her gaining any weight in the upcoming months, and I think she's likely reached her full adult height. And ladies' socks just come in one size, so it's not like she's going to outgrow her socks.

First, we're talking elementary schoo here so teenagers don't apply. Second, you'd be surprised at how those growth spurts creep up on you. My oldest son went from a size 7 to a size 10 in less than a month at the age of 9. Totally insane. And if your son is 9 and hasn't grown much in a few years, he is due for a growth spurt. It just seems silly to me to buy new anything when the old stuff still fits and is still is good condition.

I dont know, I buy them for the start of school, esp. socks, as its sooo nice to put on new socks, also since they are putting on new clothes, its nice to have new socks and undies too. Though, I buy both anytime they are needed aside from back to school. lol
