Sleep Apnea??

My son is 9 years old and has trouble for almost 4 years, sleeping. He sleep walks, sleep talks AND has occasional accidents in the bed and has NO clue he's done such a thing.

I've FINALLY convinced my sons doctor that something is wrong somewhere! They are making an appointment for him to see a sleep specialist 4 hours away

My question is this: what should I expect to come from this? What exactly do sleep doctors test?

1 mom liked this

They will put tons of electrodes to his head and then he will go to sleep and they will collect data.

It looks kinda silly but doesn't hurt anything. It will be overnight. Don't know how that works with a minor. But he will have to go at like 10pm and be able to leave about 8am.

Have you taken him to an ENT to check his tonsils? My son had sleep apnea because they were so big.

A year or so ago a specialist did tell me that his adnoids were slighly enlarged but hee did not forsee and medical problems from them. At that time, they was treating him for his constant nose bleeds.

I don't know about what they do for that... but everything your son is going through, I went through myself til I was twelve... I was raped as a kid though and I had horrible dreams and I always wet the bed, and I did sleep walk... when my dad would go out of town, I was allowed to sleep in the bed with my mom, and she said I would wake up and carry on a full conversation with her, I guess I asked her questions and when my mom answer questions, she always gets into a full lengthy conversation and explaining her answers... she said she would be answering, and when I didn't respond, she realized I was asleep... she would always ask me the next morning if I remembered but I never did... and there were many nights my mom and dad would come running in my room because I was screaming, and they would have to wake me up... or if I fell asleep on the couch, and my dad would carry me back to my bed, and he said he would wake up in the middle of the night to find me back on the couch, and still to this day I don't remember it, I just remember them telling me about it, but I do remember the nightmares... I had to sleep with my light on everynight and my windown completely covered up and with my door wide open...my parents had to put me in tthe room across from their bedroom just so I could sleep because I was so scared to fall asleep because the nightmares haunted me!!!

I don't know if this is what he could be going through, but I just thought to share my story in case it was

Gosh I have no idea.. but I can tell you I have 2 of my sons have sleep issuse that seem to go away with age.. my now 15 year old son used to have night terrors n wake up screaming running around the house he did this for about two or so years..

My 10 year old has had some if the same things not as bad as my 15 year old thou.. but once he turned 5 he stopped just like that.. never had another one..so your son may do the same hard to say but I would still do the test.. just to be safe..

Ds1 and myself both sleep walk and sleep talk. I wouldnt be concerned. The bed wetting might just be that he is a heavy sleeper

My DD had the test done little over a year ago but it was for sleep issues. But they put the electrodes on her head then had her try to sleep. She was 9. It was done during the day. She had to go to stay up till 11pm then get up at 5am. Test was started at 11 am. It was a long time but she could not fall asleep. I think that it's painful or anything just little stressful for a kid.
