My kids usually are in various states of undress which in the house is fine by me. However they have always wanted to take this outside which of course my husband and i disallowed due to neighbors. A days ago we have an 8 ft privacy fence put in to replace to chain link one we had. Well my kids jump in the pool sans clothes of course, and i freak a bit and make them go into house for swim suits. My kids and husband don't see what the big deal is now that we have the fence. I mean we still have neighbors but most of the yard including ours have a few medium sized trees of bushes that obscure any other view. Plus the back is towards woods so no houses there. Am i overeacting do you think?

Quoting ilovemykids732:clothes outside... shorts are fine for boys... a top and shorts for girls... the girl across the street in DSs class [going into 3rd grade] was outside topless the other day... my DS wanted to go over and hang out with her... I didnt let him though... we live on a busy street... and she was outfront topless... I fealt bad for her... but I watched her take her top off outside... she had a shirt on... where are you parents lil girl?!
I don't get why her having a top off is a big deal? Most parents i know don't care if their daughter was topless o.O.
I only disuaded my children from running about half clothed because I knew if I let them there would come a day, that they would not be able to do so anymore without it being considered really weird....and when would that age be? And how would I explain why they could not be naked or half naked walking about the house or at the beach anymore?
I had a friend whose kids went about in their underwear at the beach until they were prepubescent and they were upset and confused about the sudden insistence that they where swimsuits.
However, if I could live in a culture where nudity was always the norm....on a tropical island or the forests of Borneo, I would totally go naked and so would have my kids!
honestly it wouldnt be that big of a deal, we swim without suits all the time.
clothes on or off ... kids pee in the pool lol.
Quoting SahmTam:I wouldn't allow it. Really young ones would probably pee in the pool lol, and any older than toddler is too old IMO.
I wouldn't allow it, but my kids would never ask. They are very modest - a couple of years ago my middle child, I think she was 6, refused to wear shorts because it showed too much of her legs. Capris were fine, but that was it for her. This is not something we've drilled into them btw.
Quoting MommaTasha1003:Haha, yep... I'm sure mine did pee while in the pool when they were young... but I always had swim diapers on them. No nakie butts in my pool. LOLclothes on or off ... kids pee in the pool lol.

How old are they? IF they are ages 5-8 or so, let them go for it IMO. Since the backyard is fenced in. But keep a lookout for "peeping toms". There usually aren't any, but it woudl be something that would cross my mind anyway.
Beyond that, once they start getting prepubescent, I think you should start enforcing teh clothing rules.
*SMH* Why is this thing being discussed yet again? Do people honestly go searching for old drama to dredge it back up, or what?
