my 3rd grader is upset

That I didn't take her to her school today. She said she was the only whose parent wasn't there to help her find her class. But see I haven't done that since kinder and even then there were kids getting off the buses on their first day. She went to a new campus for 1st grade and now another new campus this year (every other year until high school the kids have a new school to attend). I thought she was a big girl and didn't need my help, we went to meet and greet yesterday and saw the school and met her teacher so I thought she was fine. But she told me she got lost and had to go to the office cuz she forgot her teachers name and the principal had to look up which class she was in. It's a good thing she remembered her name. Lol. So now I feel bad. But if I took her to her school, I'd also had to take my 2nd grader to a different campus, with my 6monyh old in tow and my kinder who doesn't start until next week. So am I a bad mom for making her ride the bus?

I don't think you're a bad mom at all- at our school it isn't even an option!

No, of course your not a bad mom, your just busy (very LOL) Just have a chat with her, tell her how you where busy and thought she was fine with it since she had meet her teacher yesterday. Save a time frame just for her to make it up to her. Its not a big deal she was probably just frustrated from a long first day.

Why the new school for each grade? That just seems odd to me. I only have 2 kids, so if it were me I would go, but if you have other kids to tend to then I guess you cant be everywhere at once right!

We aren't allowed to help out kids on te first day, not even the kindergartners:(. They don't make the kids find the class by themselves, they have them line up outside and wait for the bell.

You're not a bad mom. By 3rd grade she should have been able to handle it. She might be upset, but she has to start being a big kid now. It was a rocky beginning but she'll be fine.

Our district is fairly small but so are the schools. Its not every year, its every other year. So the first school prek and k , then its 1st and 2nd, Jess is at the 3rd and 4th. Its different from what I'm used to but it keeps all the kids in the district together from prek (if they go) to 12th grade. And it keeps the funding the same across the board. And the problems with deciding where to divide the district up if every elementary school here has k-5 and how to desegregate the schools because our neighborhoods are pretty segregated. Idk how this system got decided on as the neighboring town in the same parish (pretty much considered the same city since both are so small and the malls and Walmart and all service both) has schools for k-5 grade. But it seems to work. Its just annoying having to check 3 kids out of 3 different schools every other year, last yr my girls were together and next year they will be again.
