See what CafeMoms are saying about saving time this holiday season..
I would like some advice on how to keep my second grader focused and doing his work. I've honestly about had it with our school district and am seriously considering pulling him out and home schooling him. His pediatrician will not test for ADD/ADHD until he is seven, but the school is pushing to medicate him. To get his first grade teacher off our backs we consented to having him observed to "make it easier for the pediatrician to diagnose and treat him". Three people besides myself and his teacher observed him and in their opinions he does not show any of the signs of ADD/ADHD. I've been fighting this fight since preschool to no avail. The pediatrician has written five letters to the school stating that she does not believe he has ADD/ADHD and she will not test nor treat until he is seven.
Today is his fifth day of school and I just got back home from having to run up there to deal with him because "he's not keeping up with the class". He is like me, he works at a slower pace. It takes him forever to do his school work, let alone his homework. Please, give me some advice because frankly I'm sick of having to drop everything at home to rush up there to have the same conversation with his principal, his teacher and his guidance counselor.
