Has anyone else done this? You can go to Lowe's every other Saturday (maybe one Saturday a month once school starts... I haven't quite gotten a straight answer) and build a toy with your kid. They give them free goggles, aprons, and wooden toys-- and you basically get to teach them how to hold and use a few tools. They walk away with a new toy, a badge, and a pretty huge sense of accomplishment. My 7-year-old DSD LOVES going to this thing. They're doing Shrek toys this weekend (they do it on Sundays, too, if you're looking for something to do) and then the next time. After that, they're building a ski ball thing like at Chuck E. Cheese. If you're looking for something cheap to do, it's a great "activity" that takes up some time. We're not exactly well-off financially, so I'm always looking for something to do that's fun. I wish I'd learned earlier. Hope this helps someone!
