My school does it. You clip the little boxtops certificates out and then follow the schools procedures for submitting them. Some want them just cut out in a baggie, and some have you glue or tape them onto a sheet of paper and send them in. The schools submit the certificates and earn around .10 per to use towards things in the school.
we participate but i really am not sure how they earn money for the school. Our school has a monthly competition to see who gets the most box tops each month. We have a whole bunch we have saved over the summer to turn in.
I'm glad this came up, I still clip them and save them, almost out of habit, long after my son has finished any school that uses them. I have a small amount saved up now and would gladly send them to anyone that would like them for their school. Just send me your address in a PM, or if you would rather not provide you address the school address or a work address and I'll drop them in the mail. I just can't throw them away, it feels like throwing money away to me since we saved them for so long and got so much with them at our school.
If your school is part of the program all you have to do is cut out the boxtops and send them in with you kiddo. The school's boxtop coordinator will send them in and they will send a check to the school. They are worth 10 cents per box top. Our school earned close to $2000 last year alone.
Yes we collect them, it is simple. I can't think of anything to add that the previous posters have not said already.

How do I find out if my school participates?
Just go to the boxtop website and type in the school's zipcode, you can also sign up and view how much you school has made:)
